Please help me decide upgrades to my PC.
I’ve thought of some upgrade paths, will share my thoughts and plans after the specs.
PC:
CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600
Motherboard - Gigabyte b450m DS3H WiFi
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 16GB (2x8GB)
PSU - Corsair VS550 550W
Monitor - LG 21 inch IPS 75Hz
GPU - RX470 4GB(crashing atm, will troubleshoot later)
Using friend’s buggy RX 580 4GB temporarily.
I’m thinking to upgrade because I’m getting about 120-220 FPS in CS2 and “cinematic” fps in new games at low settings with FSR and Frame Gen (40-70 fps at 480p basically) and some of them just won’t run with 2025 RT requirements, older RT works, although I don’t intend to use RT anyways.
Also, will start developing games in a couple of months.
I’ll have 10k saved by next week and will try to get it up to 20k by September.
Targeting the Navratri Sales.
I haven’t used my PC since last 2 years and want to get back into gaming and a bit of streaming.
Here are some plans for the upgrade:
Buy a used 6700 XT or 3070Ti for <20k (Arch BTW, so AMD is preferred)
Buy a used Ryzen 5 5600X (~7k) or 5800X (<=13k)
Buy a 9060XT 16GB with some help from parents (will do game dev)
Continue to use this one until AM6 & finish my unplayed library (has no new games, newest title is from 2017).
Since my friends have upgraded to new (but used) parts they have kept their following old parts at my place for selling, I could use them until they are sold (that’s why September is a good time)
Benq 144Hz TN (upgrade from 75Hz but downgrade in colors)
RX 580 4GB (already using) not much uplift but also has a phantom display problem.
RAM, multiple 8GB DDR4 sticks, all with different speeds. (I can manage with mismatched 32GB for time being).
Streaming is just an afterthought from point 4. I thought if I’ll be playing my 100+ games backlog why not stream alongside.
It all depends on your budget, a 3070ti for 19k or a 6700xt for 18k along with a 5600x for 7k(though it’ll be hard to find) should be good enough for most of the task, but if you’re going to perform intensive tasks like game development, I think you’ll have to invest a lot more than just this, because then you’ll have to revamp the whole setup for it
You should get a big fat final 5700x3d upgrade for your CPU and not worry about it for years to come, imo (if you can splurge a little)
I have a 5700x and I think it’s good enough for almost everything for years to come, Cyberpunk struggles a little even with RT off, stuck around 60-80s on my 3090 no matter what graphic settings I push, so I’m CPU bound. x3d would definitely help a lot in this case
All the best on finding a GPU deal though, I’ve seen 3060Tis for under 20k, never a 3070ti though
But for a max budget for 20k, the 5600x you mentioned and a used 3060ti seems like the only way forward, it’ll be a huge uplift especially with dlss 4. (no fg)
Try looking for used 5700x or 5600 & for GPU if your luck is good, probably a rx 6800 non xt 16gb could be found for 20k. You’ll need 32gb of ram if you plan on playing intensive games in 2025.
I’ve decided a change of plans, I’m gifting my mum something with this saved money and I just got a job so the plan technically stays on but postponed to later months.
As many have suggested, I’ll upgrade the RAM first since it can be done outside the budget as well.
Then the CPU to a 5600 (or a X3D if I can find one)
Then GPU to a 6700 XT or 9060 XT by the end of thw year.
how much do a used 3060ti costs now? I am searching one.
I do have same config but with 1060-3gb and a RX570-4GB as standby.
also, I am using a 1080p screen with 185Hz, so not looking for a 1440p gaming GPU.
