How do I get Amazon Pay ICICI Credit Card as a Self Employed person?

Got rejected for the second time and its super annoying considering they make you wait 6 months before applying again
I have been filing my taxes for the past 2 years now because of foreign income.
My primary income is from providing freelancing services to foreign clients.
I waited till my ITR was filed in case they wanted a decent yearly income but god damn ICICI hates self employed people or what
My CIBIL is 759, highest it went was 768, Experion is 777

Because of not being able to get a card I did an FD with IDFC First Wow to get started on a credit history
It will be 1 full year since I have that card in a week
and I have another SBI Simplyclick unsecured that will have 7 months of credit history
I got SBI because of having a decade old bank account I guess, but these other banks are not budging at all

get platinum fd card first then wait and then you can easily get approval for amazonpay card. followed the same technique. have 8 unique cards with icici now and can get even more

after getting the unsecured card, close the fd and fd lien card.

Minimum 50k FD is wild

Good cibil score nowadays is 770+ & 1 year credit history is considered new so no wonder you didn’t get amazonpay card.

Are you incl addon cards in those 8 cards?

I am a long time amazon user. I also use their pay later facility regularly. I have a decent limit. I just clicked on apply for icici card and after online verification I got it like in a week. It was super easy.

no add-on, all are lifetime free cards. can’t take the risk of checking the card fee.

Amazonpay, coral, platinum, these are three are the most common so how did you get 8 unique cards. You got MMT, rubyx, sapphiro+amex version, coral rupay too?

collecting it like infinity stones?

I never took any ICICI card till the Amazon co-branded card was launched. Only took a Platinum later for the ICICI card offers as a co-branded card wouldn’t work and the sales executive had a target to meet. Cancelled it after taking the Coral RuPay variant.

PS : some user on reddit reported getting 13 unique cards issued as the bank’s system malfunctioned but you seem to be the chosen one.

Answering the thread title, there doesn’t seem to be any fixed criteria.

Someone I know got one with >400k limit despite having no job, no income, no itr, just a pan card. I think your shopping history might have something to do with it.

CIBIL is weird, I just got approved for a Tata Neu Plus card and my score is absurdly low. I wasn’t even looking, just got a random WhatsApp message telling me to apply ha.

I’ll add that you should try visiting your local branch, especially if it’s a remote/rural/lower tier area and find the rep fronting the CC desk. It’s usually easier and has higher chances of approving since it helps fill their quota. The requirements are also lowered quite a lot usually since it’s not everyday you find people there wanting a credit card. It also helps if you already have an existing relationship.

I used to get rejected back to back for Infinia via BLR representatives, no matter the assurances they gave. The requirements kept increasing with every other bank CC rep I called. Then decided one day to visit the local branch (even though my account’s branch is in BLR) and asked them to see what can be done. Didn’t take long since to get a credit limit bump to 8L (which was sufficient back then), apply for the card with their help offline and get it approved.

Do note that they’ll try to upsell you their ULIP/Insurance and stuff. I’d say politely decline and/or tell them you’ll consider it during the next renewal if they can get this done. Worked for me at least haha.

Re: secured cards, that’s also a way but I honestly wouldn’t recommend wasting a ton of money for an FD-backed card unless it offers some tangible benefit (like 0 forex) and that too, just to get Amazon Pay CC.

ICICI bank gave us free CC during our college days. Amazon Pay CC was automatically accepted when applying. So above quote is kinda my story with Amazon Pay CC :joy:

I got the offer for the card when I was a student. I think it was because I had managed to build a good credit score by activating Pay later on Flipkart which was some sort of consumer loan from IDFC first bank that i didn’t realize at the time. Even though I had used the paylater facility only 3 times, I now had a solid credit history of more than 2 years with timely repayment (but Zero usage) shown every month.

My entire card process took 24 hours and I had the virtual card within 12 hrs of Vkyc.

Do you shop in the Tata ecosystem or have any existing HDFC Bank relationship?

The WhatsApp was from Tata/HDFC Bank or a third-party? Only asking because of your nim credit experience.

They’ve been trying for some time:

Does Big Basket count? I’ve been ordering essentials, like coke zero and kit kats.

I do have a ~200k “limit” for hdfc consumer loan, I use it to buy phones/appliances for my uncle whenever he visits (once or twice a year) and he pays upfront so it’s a nice burst of cash for me that I repay with no cost emi.

Those are just marketing messages. A credit appraisal will still be done by the banking partner if you apply for the card.

Yes, big basket shopping triggers that.

Just fyi, co-branded cards especially amazonpay card is one card where bank branch ppl can’t help even one bit.

You got it via ltf offer from imobile app?

Shopping history does play a major role in approval of such cards if other factors are not favourable enough.

If your cibil score is above 700 then it isn’t much surprising but if cibil score is below 600 then it is a rare case of luck (I have seen comments of ppl getting approved for a cc with cibil score around 500 or less with a default on loan entry).

Must be some tier-1 college.

I will try that. The rural area thing might be an issue, I live in a small town and the pincode I applied with is in the outskits.

Yeah I only got the IDFC secured one was so I can get a started card for credit history.
Also it was LTF so doesnt matter. My FD will give me some interest returns so not really an issue. But I dont see a point of secured cards for me anymore

Gonna try visiting local ICICI.

You won’t get co branded cards through the local branch. I you have to apply online itself for co branded card. These cards are processed centrally and the branch don’t have say in them.

Both the ICICI cards - the closed Platinum and the Coral in use were through the bank’s tele sales channel even though I saw the pre-approved offers when I’d login for my Amazon Pay card.

The Platinum card application happened as I had a mortgage application in process and there were a few calls from Mumbai for the processing. The card sales executive called during the same time and I agreed only because I wanted a core ICICI credit card for the bank offers. I received an SMS with a link and did the OTP validation. All of this happened in the middle of my mortgage application but there was no mis-selling.

Later on, I wanted a RuPay card to get the petty expenses off my bank accounts and again the Coral RuPay offer was available in app. I checked and the sales calls were triggered. Took the fee confirmation over email and my card was delivered soon.

An acquaintance who is an RM at an ICICI Bank branch in the same city said “aapko toh premium card mil jayega” considering my profile and relationship and suggested I close the Platinum card. But, before he could help me with the application for upgrade, he had to rush his mother for hospitalisation (cancer) and I didn’t pursue it later. Still get that Emeralde notification. But I have no need for it.

TMI but just sharing it for context.

Interesting to see people just suggest visiting a branch or applying through agents. Then the banks get a bad reputation for mis-selling.

It’s like those people who apply for the SBI Cashback card through offline sales channel.
