How to check for potential issues in a SSD

I recently bought a 2TB 9100 pro from Technologyhell. After that other thread with issues and fake drives. How do i check for any issues and if its robust drive otherwise i would like to sell it at a loss and get a new retail drive so my data is not affected.

To check a Samsung 9100 Pro SSD, use the Samsung Magician software to monitor its health, update firmware, and check its performance. You can also use third-party tools like CrystalDiskMark to run a benchmark test and verify its sequential and random read/write speeds.

Run full SMART and other benchmarks. Do a full encryption.

Use veracrypt to create a blank encrypted volume.

Then hope for the best. Have backups.

It says Samsung Authenticated next to the serial number in Magician.

Whats the use of Veracrypt

The benchmark along with authentication shows that it’s an original drive don’t worry.

The above benchmarks are consistent with other 9100 pro drives.

VeraCrypt is a disk/file encryption tool IIRC open source version of TrueCrypt which allows you “plausible deniability” for scenarios like if you are crossing borders of some country that wants you to unlock your laptop and show officials what you have on it.

I have a 4tb version of this SSD - are you not running it in Gen5 mode? Why is the speed half of the expected 14 GBps (14000 MBps) range - which is Gen4 levels?

edit:

To answer your main concern with one more suggestion - you can also fill up the drive to capacity to see if any issues - like on Win11 create a drive image (in settings for storage spaces i think) it’s like a file that can be mounted as a drive… ensure you pick the option to prefill the drive image - usually people choose to let is expand as you add data to it.

I have Gen4 port only.

I had a similar moment of paranoia when I bought a random high-capacity SSD from a smaller shop. What helped me figure out if it was legit was basically hammering it with a big file transfer. Real ones keep consistent speeds, the sketchy ones drop to like USB stick levels after a few gigs. Also, SMART logs don’t lie. If it shows weird power-on hours or the wear level is already high, something’s off. I’d at least run that before thinking about selling it.

What has secure erase got to do with the checking drive issues.

Just informing because you are planning to sell….

I wont sell if there are no issues with the drive.

If anyone wants to buy this at 14k let me know via pm. I would like to not take the risk with this drive even though it is 100% health and shows genuine on Samsung magician.
