I’m waiting for more clarity on the IPTV + Internet plans as well. I’m on the 200mbps internet plan which is good value. Don’t want to switch until I can get more details on the list of channels plus pricing.
The new Airtel IPTV box seems pretty decent however I read on IBF that they are counting IPTV usage towards internet data cap. I hope that’s not the case.
+1. I managed to get A or even A+ with JioFiber after enabling QoS in my Router but the base latency was always higher. Airtel did not need QoS enabled for A/A+ bufferbloat ratings.
I play Diablo 4 with my friends on some weekends. On JioFiber my latency was like 200-250ms. When my friend who’s in the US joins my party, it would be a laggy mess. On Airtel it’s usually between 110-130ms and remains playable when my friend joins.
The Airtel CC said the Airtel stb uses same internet data. Doesn’t get own internet connection.
But, “assured” me my FUP would be fine.
I’ll just wait and watch and see if anyone else on this forum actually is using Airtel iptv for a month or 2 can comment.

This either means their system will somehow “adjust” FUP for IPTV users or they will allow any IPTV user to request more data over FUP like hathway used to do a few years back where anyone who crossed their FUP could just call the local agent & ask him to credit few hundred GBs to their connection plan.
P.S. IPTV typically works on vlan so technically it is very easy for airtel to calculate IPTV bandwidth usage per connection in their system.
If I am using my own GPON router like say a TP-Link xx530v instead of the Airtel provided one, will IPTV still work?
It should as long as you can setup the vlan settings for IPTV correctly in it & it is compatible with airtel side settings.

My annual prepaid jio sim connection recharge expires in December.
I ported from Airtel prepaid to jio prepaid mobile in 2017.
Now, it may be time to go back to the Airtel mothership.
Thinking of going all Airtel in December.
By that time will test the waters of how this iptv thing is going by monitoring the forums.
Then will get mobile and broadband plan under Airtel.
Will port to Airtel prepaid and Airtel iptv 699 plan in December. That’s the plan anyway.
See if you can get airtel axis credit card (check your airtel thanks app–finance section). This card gives 25% cashback up to 250 per month on airtel services bill payments on airtel thanks app using it. This card also gives around 8% cashback up to 250 per month on utilities bill payments (like electricity bill) on airtel thanks app (technically it is 10% but due to around 2% convenience charge on using credit card it si effectively around 8%).
Generally, Use local ISP(or BSNL if good in your area) if it is good. We don’t want duopoly in ISPs too.
I have HDFC pixel play rupay and visa cc.
Just for Airtel cash back getting credit card..
You can potentially save 250 every month on airtel related services by just spending 1000 every month so in a year you would be saving 3000 & that’s not even incl what you can potentially save on your home electricity bill. For all this, paying 600 annual fee is well worth it.
Had great experience with airtel broadband. Sustained upload/download, low and stable ping/latency. But it comes with 3tb/month FUP, jio is the same with this matter.
Third-party providers are also good and mostly dont have any limits..
Do we get OTTs like Sony & Zee also with Airtel?
Not all are as good as airtel/jio & all of them have limits just that either they don’t mention it clearly (aka “reasonable use”/similar mentioned in T&C) or their service is such that you will never reach those hidden FUP limits in the first place or if using tier-3/4 ISPs then your usage is hidden/mixed among the entire neighbourhood so as long as others are not complaining there won’t be an issue.
echoing others, for IPTV Jio is unrivalled, rest Airtel is good, for us atleast, Jio is really prompt in fixing cable issues, so max downtime we have had is an hour or two unless its at night.
But yeah, Jio is a PITA for any advanced use case
Can you expand more on jio iptv and how it’s better
you get jiotv which has more channels than your average dish tv pack, jiohotstar, jio cinema, star+, prime video etc for just 200rs/month
I don’t know about airtel but I’m pretty sure there iptv offering is not as vast as Jio’s, JioTV is really underrated
(My location - Thane)
I was on Airtel fiber for about 5 yrs and switched to Jio Fiber just last year. My main grouse with Airtel was these small 10-20 second disconnects where internet connection would be gone. This happened a few times in a day and normally one wouldn’t notice it but I have work from home and in online calls 10-20 seconds is very long time. Otherwise had no concerns.. sometimes my random speedtests have given me speeds upwards of 150 mbps on my 100mbps plan.
Coming to Jio, I haven’t experienced those 10-20 second drops. Connection is usually stable but they have better monitoring/control so I rarely get above 100mbps. Both use CG-NAT, so kind of useless if you want to connect from outside (I use tailscale which works well).
But with Jio, I do have lot of annoyances, may or may not matter to everyone but here you go with my rant -
-
Extremely opaque billing system. They kept on changing my billing cycle on prepaid plan making it nearly impossible to track for how many days I was getting charged.
-
after a while they moved me to post paid, without my knowledge or intimation. I still don’t know what happened to my prepaid balance - would have been a small amount, but still complete lack of transparency
-
They have no post paid plans in true meaning of the word - they will charge you in advance for the month. E.g. bill dated 26 April will be for the period 26 April to 25 May.
-
The auto pay has to be setup through their app only. The app is setup in such a way that default option is to prepay for 12 months (you get some extra days, but hey, I signed up for postpaid for a reason). With Airtel, I could set up Autopay in my bank account and it worked flawlessly every month for 5 yrs where it would pay just before deadline.

Ads galore on STB - turn on settop box, there are couple of ads. Switch channels, there are ads which are inserted by Jio, not channel. These days there’s also menace on some movie channels where the moment you switch to those channels they will show the Timesplay ad for whatever they are showing that month. Can’t skip and everytime you turn that channel you have to go through this.
-
The organization of channel numbers is not very intuitive.
-
For Zee channels, it switches to z5 app and after that switching by channel numbers doesn’t work until you exit. Fine for us, but if you have older people at house, it will be difficult for them to adjust.
-
The EPG is so dumb, everytime you bring it up it will start from like some 12am or 1am programs for the day and you need to keep on scrolling to the right to get to current time and then play the channel.
-
800 channels is also a bane, you get so many useless channels that randomly pop in between channel surfing your regular channels.
-
Router is so bad. It forces to change your password every 3 months. I could setup my pi-hole DNS for ipv4 but goodluck doing that for ipv6 - you can do it but setting gets erased everytime router restarts.
-
On my proxmox server which is behind the jio router, I was getting random ssh attempts from outside. I never opened any ports or anything but would see this continuous stream of attempts with common login names like admin, pi, etc. Restarting router didn’t help and had to do factory reset of router and then it stopped. Makes me wonder about their security..
All in all, while Jio internet service is ok, their extreme lack of transparency in billing, not being able to setup autopay through bank (I don’t want to give blanket authorization to jio), and annoyances with STB/TV do make me miss Airtel. I might get cable from outside just for the ergonomics even if it costs couple of hundreds extra every month.

Not sure what you mean, I had it for a year and never had to change any password?
this is for router admin, not wifi password
