Building my very first gaming PC with some new and some used parts. The spec is almost fixed but please feel free to correct me if there are better alternatives. My aim is 4K60 gameplay with DLSS, mostly story-based games.
Need your recommendation for Mobo and PSU. RAM pricing is atrocious so I am on the lookout for both new and used units.
CPU: Ryzen 5600X, buying sealed unit from a TE seller
Mobo: mATX B550 with USB-C and WiFi
RAM: 2x16GB 3200Mhz CL16 RAM
SSD: 2TB NVMe SSD, buying open-box/pulled unit from a TE seller
GPU: RTX 3060 Ti, buying used unit from a TE seller
PSU: ~800W PSU
Case: Deepcool CH160 Plus or Lian Li A3 Wood edition
I am primarily going by benchmarks and comparison videos on youtube. Looks like with medium settings and DLSS, 60-ish framerate is doable. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmR_NWP1QVw
I want to keep the expense minimal for now. I don’t mind upgrading in a year or two (to a 9070XT maybe). Want to spend under 60-70K for the PC + controller. No other peripherals are needed. 5600X + 3060Ti is costing me under 60K
This comparison video is almost 3.5 years old. A lot has changed with newer games since, especially with VRAM usage. UE5 is the primary engine most developers use, and it’s hot garbage when it comes to optimization
Take Mafia the Old Country, for example. GPUs get wrecked:
I have a 5070 Ti, and some newer games have breached 15 GB for me at 4K. Mafia The Old Country, and Silent Hill f being two examples.
I’m one of the those folks who bought a bunch of stuff on Steam and never got time to play. I’ll be more than happy playing Cyberpunk, God of War (the two new ones), Horizon Zero Dawn, Forza Horizon 4 (and hopefully 6), TLOU 1 and 2, Witcher 3, etc.
Thanks for this suggestion. DM’d the guy for a pricing on his entire system sans the GPU. Will solve my issue with RAM availability if I can get the lot from him.
I am OK with this. I was into gaming when I was in school and early days of college, then moved to bikes and cars when I got a job, and now I’m barely getting time to ride/drive for pleasure. So back to gaming it is for me and I would like to start working through my Steam library
I’m open to suggestions. The official XBOX one is prone to drift issues, so what would you recommend? Any good third party options with hall-effect sticks?
Yes I am checking Cybenetics for PSU ratings but wanted to get some suggestions from the TE folks to narrow down my search a bit. I’m not cheaping out on the PSU, no sir! Aiming for a 700-800W unit.
