So I’m going to place order for this 5080 Legion Pro 7i, tomorrow for 3.25lac.
From my research the only cons of this laptop are: No sdcard reader, no fingerprint scanner, no glass touchpad and subjectively people hating on glossy oled/pwm flicker.
Another option I have in mind is Scar 16 5080, and well I can’t think of anything bad about it other than liquid metal risks. But man is it expensive, rather own a 5090 at that price from legion.
I don’t want a desktop as they are quite more expensive after factoring in monitor and electricity costs.
Not to mention riddled with the same RMA horror stories and far more issues with compatibility and pins bending whatnot.
Power cost is a concern when spending 3.25L on windows laptop? You think you’ll game much with out the adapter plugged?
Here’s a suggestion. Check a 2L gaming build +1.25L laptop (even Macbook pro can game remotely).
Compare the cpu + gpu performance and power consumption of desktop vs this laptop.
It will take maybe 30mins. But you’ll come out more certain.
Most desktop component from good companies have longer more reliable warranties.
I use a 5070Ti and 7800X3D-based system. It doesn’t add as much numbers to your overall bill as it is made out to be. And my system is running almost 24/7.
You are really sacrificing a lot of performance; however, the call is yours. 4K AAA gaming on a laptop 5080 will get you struggling sooner than you think. It is 40-60% slower than the desktop variant. You also do NOT need 64 GB of memory for gaming. Now, or even in the near future.
Here is a desktop option sans the monitor for 2.76L that will run rings around that laptop config:
Please check this and decide for yourself. On avg 50-60% better performance on 5080 desktop. Most times 5080 laptop can’t play games at 40k 60fps without dlss.
For power savings count your - (avg gaming hours month x avg power savings per hour in watts)/1000 * avg electricity rate per unit.
Now calculate how long it’ll take to recover the difference in price.
It’s your money, you can pile it up and light it on fire if you wish. But if you’re looking for a smarter choice you can consider some of the suggestions above.
Like others have already informed you, a laptop that costs 3 lakhs is not going to offer you better gaming opportunity than a desktop worth equal value. It’d be better if you invest in a value for money gaming PC and save rest of the money, if you get to save some, for future upgrades.
Moreover, if the laptop goes kaput, you would have to fork out extra dough to get it fixed or replaced however since a desktop offers a clear path for upgrades, you can pick and choose the components that better suit your usage which is not possible to do when it comes to a laptop.
Here’s an alternative OP: I have a spare 4070ti Super and some free lanes in a local server. Why don’t you try cloud gaming for a few days. If you like it, we can arrive at some monthly payment based arrangement which would be hell of a lot cheaper than 3L. It’ll even run on a potato, as long as you can install moonlight on it.
PS. My friends sometime use it and they can’t feel much difference outside FPS games.
I have had my fair share of troubles with gaming laptops and desktops, the former being more egregious. I have seen the battery dying under warranty, bulging of batteries, keyboards needing replacement, overheating, hinges breaking (planned obsolescence), fans bearings going bad, and many more.
These were with Dell Alienwares and Asus laptops. Both gave decent support under extended warranties but you need to be careful with the technicians.
The reality is it can happen with any laptop brands, since they rely on 3rd party for their warranty repairs.
If you’re not comfortable assembling a desktop you can get it done then and there at the shop you purchase from. Many of the fellow member can guide to a good shop in your region.
Spending anything above a lakh on so-called “gaming” laptops these days, will most certainly end in tears for the buyer, especially when you consider the shit third-party after-sales service situation in India.
An RTX 5080 laptop will always be glued a power source when you will be gaming, so that itself defeats its purpose. It will be treated like a desktop, except with all that extra horsepower.
Instead, it’s better to be sane and spend that moolah on an SFF/ITX build w/ a 15” portable monitor, especially if you care about the ease of carrying your system anywhere you want.
If you go with Lenovo laptop in the end anyway, Make sure to use 6K coupon + 5% coupon + 5% student id discount + 3% affiliate and 10% credit card discount if you have the respective limit. There is sale till today there.
Another option is to get a decent gaming laptop ~1L if mobility is one of your primary criterias and spend the rest of the budget on a desktop (what everyone else is also suggesting). This way you can game on the go and when you’re at home, you’ll have a much superior experience with a bigger screen and faster gpu/cpu.
A single failed capacitor can render an expensive laptop useless, taking the display, GPU, CPU, and soldered RAM down with it (can not be used separately), which is not a problem on any kind of desktop.
I have Scar 16 2024, let me know if you want to ask anything about it (although they changed the chassis in the 2025 model, the display is still the same 2000 zone mini-led
Early 2024 scar 16 had issues with Factory LM application, my model had it too (they fixed the issue with the later models). I had to open it and re-spread the LM to fix the temps. In the process, I also realized how secure it is. I don’t think you should worry about it leaking out or anything
Look I understand what you guys are saying, Yes a Desktop is better than a Laptop.
Thats why I mentioned the 5080 laptop is similar to 5070 desktop, which would be significantly cheaper to build. But I do not want a desktop as
I’m too scared to build one or own one due to all the issues I see with each damn part.
I move around a lot in my house: Sometimes in one corner of my room and sometimes on tv-hdmi (yes I could stream with moonlight but no). Sometimes in another corner of my house if guests are there.
I’ve only owned laptops before this for the last 15 years and never had any issue. A 144hz screen died on 2060 laptop once and only took 4600 after gst to repair.
I am simply more comfortable with a laptop.
Just placed the order for op post legion at 3,08,000 after grabbing student id of cousin.
