Suggest a Water Purifier

I have been using Aquafina 20 litre bottles for drinking water for years. I want to stop it as i want to avoid plastic containers of any kind. Please suggest any option.

depends on the source water supply. if you are getting municipal corporation supply without any borewell water mixed, you can even use just a UV purifier.

I used UV ones in Mumbai for several years but the occasional cleaning of tanks would completely ruin the filter. Also when changing the water filter earlier this year, the general recommendation I came across was to get an RO even on municipal water as the dissolved solids limit in India is significantly high compared to tap water as per EU/US standards. A good RO helps with that.

Anyway I went with the Urban Company one as I was tired of the Kent hustle for several years and so far it is good.

Always check grapevine for buying any household items

that makes two of us. with my experience, I’d definitely recommend them and give them my business again. after wasting money on all kinds of RO systems from brands and a local dealer, this doesn’t feel like you are getting robbed.

good for reference but nothing to base your decisions on. I’ve come to realise that almost 99% of these just review the listed specifications and throw in their affiliate links. there’s one youtuber from Delhi who actually buys the products to review and goes a little extra but again it’s just comparison of the listed specifications.

She doesn’t purchase most of the items, mostly reads out the specs and other info available on the web.

I think @BinaryBard is referring to the Vineet Malhotra guy who at least has the physical products he reviews and is better in that regard.

They both have a very different approach at reviewing but I’ve always found grapevine to be more logical.

I recently wanted to purchase an inverter and watch both their videos - Vineet’s 24 min video and grapevine’s 9 min video

Grapevine follows a structured approach. Determining all factors and comparing specs on paper.

Vineet has a product based approach. Not covering all aspects.

I didn’t even know until I watched grapevines video that there’s inverter options when you have solar+on grid power solution. Vineet should have considered this in the longer video or at least mentioned once.

Another example is both their videos on latest washing machines. Vineeth doesn’t mention the difference in technical aspects belt drive vs direct drive motors which grapevine covers.

My take is both are good sources, Vineeth tests and claims “the best” with incomplete tests

Grapevine shares research info educates about what to look for so you can analyse budget/features/specs.

throw in their affiliate links [/quote]

Vineeth does that too though.

I’d agree with you.

Yes, the other YouTuber uses affiliate links as well. I found a lot of repetition and exaggeration in his videos - maybe it works for his target audience. I guess they both serve different audiences. But at least he’s actually buying and using the products he recommends.

Kent is best among all the others. because i am using it for mire than 10 years if you scales in water means at least you need to put 3 extra pre filters to extend the life of purifier

However, most of them are armchair reviews because there is no actual product experience involved. It is a bit like all those review videos where users put fake thumbnails of holding a device and then requote specs and facts available on the web. I didn’t find the grapevine videos adding much because that info is the first thing you get on consumer goods forums, which she just puts up as a digest.

Having some practical usage feedback is more useful in my case.

Even with that I’d just recommend to get a complete solution. RO + UV + whatever extra filters it has. You never know when the water quality drops and then suddenly you have a tank full of undrinkable water. Don’t need anything fancy just a system which has multiple filters, It’s ugly but it works.

Also wasn’t there a thread here with history about this same topic? I remember reading about it.

The issue with RO is that it removes the useful minerals as well, hence better to not use when not needed

Doesn’t this only happen if you set the TDS too low? I keep TDS at 70-100 which people say is the best.

Anything except RO.

Oh I was not aware you can adjust that. Seems to work by mixing a portion of normal water with RO water

many vendors are doing away with M TDS feature that allowed to adjust the TDS levels.

There are only trace amount of minerals in water nothing that would be be meaningful to worry about.

M TDS is worst as they are mixing the unfiltered water with the filtered water.

Drinking pure water without minerals is far far better than the contrary

Buy one with a stainless steel tank.

There is no meaningful minerals/electrolytes in municipal water and there are more harmful stuff in the ground water than useful minerals. Just get an electrolytes supplement powder without any sugar or sweetener. And get your minerals from food. That is the best way.

Infact the best water would be sun charged distilled water in a glass bottle and then some electrolytes added to it.
