  1. What is your budget?
    • 20K Max
  2. What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    • none, need suggestions for a new build since motherboard of old laptop died.
  3. Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • Monitor - Dell FHD Monitor, don't know the exact product number.
    • HDD - Crucial MX500 500 GB SATA SSD.
    • KB and Mouse.
  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • A Mini PC - Motherboard, CPU, RAM. Should have inbuilt Wifi and Bluetooth.
  5. Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
    • Yes, will upgrade the SSD to an NVME one in the future, as budget permits.
  6. Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
    • I have asked a local shop (see below), but may buy from an online retailer or from this forum itself if I get a better deal.
  7. What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
    • Browsing
    • Watching movies.
    • Converting camera recorded videos to HEVC to save space - I don't need a high-end PC, will make do with whatever I have.
  8. Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
    • No preference
  9. If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
    • Might play games, whatever the build can run; I am not a hardcore or even a regular gamer.
  10. What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
    1. The Dell monitor I have is FHD, so I'll be using that resolution.
  11. Are you looking to overclock?
    • No
  12. Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
    • Windows 11.
    • Linux - Ubuntu, Kubuntu, LinuxLite.

I don't have much money right now, and my old Dell laptop with i5-4200U has stopped working, so I'm looking to buy a low-end Mini PC.

I inquired at a local shop and the man at the shop has a refurbished Mini PC - an HP 800 G4 Tiny PC, which has an i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20Ghz, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD (of some company whose name I heard the first time today), Inbuilt speakers, Win11 (cracked version), and he is giving it to me for 22K. I said I can use my current MX500 SATA SSD, and he said then the cost comes down to 20K. I said I can do with an i5, and he said he can make changes any way I want since he is assembling the stuff, and this makes me think the maybe the HP label is fake and he has changed everything in it. I forgot to ask him about the motherboard or which company the RAM is of; I just took a screenshot of the details shown in System in Control Panel, which show i7-8700 and 16 GB RAM. The PSU is separate from the main device, maybe that is how it is with Mini PCs, and is included in the price the shop has quoted. The shop is giving the regular 1 year warranty on RAM and SSD, since only these two components are new; everything else is refurbished and has zero warranty.

From what I know, only 8th gen and above can run Win11, since TPM 2.0 is required, which means I can't go below 8th gen processors. Actually I don't know anything about processors, all I know is that i7 > i5 > i3. I've read that newer some gen i3s are comparable to older gen i7s. I don't want any latest device, just something I can use within my budget. Even my current dead laptop with i5 4200U can convert videos to HEVC using Handbrake, only it takes more time compared to newer gen processors. I've always wanted to compile my own custom ROM, and current Android versions require a minimum of 16 GBs RAM for compiling, so that is a must; even if I don't do any ROM compiling, I'd still like 16 GB RAM.

So, is the above config offered by the shop value-for-money or is it overpriced? Or can you suggest something else, within 20K? 20K is max, I'd prefer something like 17K or 18K.

Thank you.

I have bought 2 MiniPCs through Olx. The first one was a Dell Optiplex 7060 with i3 9100T, 256GB EVM SATA SSD and 8 GB RAM. I got this one from a guy who had an Amazon Bill for it. The adapter provided with it was of incorrect wattage so I had to spend 3 weeks communicating and escalating with the Amazon seller for them to replace the adapter. I got that one for 8K.
The new one which I am using right now as my main system is a Lenovo M70q with an i5 10500T which I got barebones(without RAM and Storage) for around 9K. It didn't have an embedded Windows license though.

If you're based in NCR, I can pass on the details.
Otherwise, explore a bit. You'll find some good deals from members on TE.

Those refurbished lenovo thinkcentre tiny pc with a 8/9th gen i5 processor would have been good enough for your usecase. I've seen them listed for as low as 11-12K on Amazon.

It's strange that I can't find any lenovo, dell or hp 1L form factor refurbished PCs on Amazon anymore. Does anybody know what happened to them all of a sudden ? It's like the entire category disappeared.

16GB DDR4: Rs. 2200/- ------- what company is the RAM?

I'll skip the NVMEs entirely at this point; can I fit my MX500 SATA SSD into the HP 800 G5?

65W adapter: Free (90W is Rs. 500/-) ------- The 90W will be needed only if I install more hardware in it, right?

Internal WiFi - Rs. 1000/- -------- without this, there would be no Wifi and Bluetooth?

So, 5K (G5) + 5K (i5 8500T) + 2.2K (RAM) + 1K (Wifi)+ 0.3K (shipping) = Rs. 13,500/-

Is there any warranty on any component?

RAM > Samsung
you can skip nvme for your existing SATA SSD
Yes 90w only when installing or using higher wattage CPU, sometimes HP becomes troublesome and does not want to start on 65W, in which case, when i am testing the system and it doesn't work with 65w i will upgrade to 90w for free
Yes without the internal wifi there wont be wifi/bluetooth, cheapest option is to get a tplink dongle from amazon.
30 days standard warranty on all items.
