yes that is somewhat obvious. raptor have really lower seek times. but do cost way more also.

any idea if the 320gb model of this same drive is available & for how much?

srorm the 320Gb has 2 platters and doesnt perform this well.

The really fast 320gb sv35.2 gives me about 68mb but this has a seek time of 15s

Could only pick up 1 today, one of the guys at the store sold the other 2 last night :@ Anyways, they're getting me 3 more by Monday and final cost is 2750 since Sabir wasn't there :/

Here's the comparison between one of my 320GB 16MB drives and the 250GB 8MB drive - both 7200.10:

My current temps, with the 3 HDD's stacked in a cage cooled by single 120mm fan:

afaik 7200.11 seagates will only be available in 500, 750 and 1 tb versions, this specific hdd is a oddity, kind of like the 7200.9 ST3160811AS which was a re-labeled 7200.10 (considering it had perp recording)

I think people have a misconception - sustained sequential transfer rate is only one part of the performance picture. In the real world, random seek matters much more and no barracuda 7200.x can beat the raptors in that!

^ True, but what's we're looking at here sequential read/write speeds which make all the difference when doing large dump jobs, besides with the newer OS'es writing so much to the HDD it does make a huge difference real world too.

^^Yup, this drive is 250 GB for 70$, The raptor 150GB costs around 200$ so unless they update the raptor line with higher areal densities its almost useless to get a raptor

got that seagate drive yesterday for 2900 all inclusive from ankit, including a sata cable and sata power cable.

are these even available in mumbai , i hurd its OOS everywhere , looking to buy one soon , anotehr hitachi hdd bites the dust

Can somebody help me in procuring one of these in Mumbai ,can't seem to find any of these :(, kinda weird , anybody who can get their hands on one pls lemme know.

^ spoke 2 almost all the seagate distribitors in mumbai (yes there are 3)

Nobody imports ST3250410AS...only the ST3259310AS (8MB cache) is available.

Only option is Banglore or is it available in Poona ???

Why don't U start another thread SoulFire, requesting people 4m diff cities 2 check.

Even I m up for 1 but only if I can ve it in the next 2 day. Already ve my 8800GT & the crysis download should finish 2nite. I'll get the WD otherwise.

only the ST3259310AS (8MB cache) is available.

Here also 310AS is only usually available. Its a 250GB single platter drive and scores the same as the 16MB one.As long as u get a 310AS/410AS there is nt much diff

Hmmm...thanks 4 the info, Supra. The ST3250310AS is available for 2.9K at Om Shakti distri...prime is asking 3K 4 the same...will check some other distries, 2moro.

BTW, I PMed TechHead, 2 check 4 the availability in Poona...my cuz is coming back dayafter 4m poona & he can pick it up, if its available there.
