Graphic Cards 4770 price confusion

I THINK it could handle an extra 10W,but then I'm no expert.I think the max power 4770 consumes is 5 watts more than 4670,but graphic cards usually don't consume as much as their max, even when they're stressed to the limit. If I could find a 9800GT for 6k,it would be a great buy but I'd still end up spending more than 8k.

Now,if I decide to just go for the 4670,do you think I'll be able to at least play the games coming out this year and the next?As I said,I don't need to play with all settings at high.If 4670 can do the job, there's no need for all this fuss.

Even now 4670 finds it hard to keep up with games at medium resolution and moderate setings.

It wont handle future games on even medium settings for sure.

Trust me ,

i had option to get an 4850 for me, but i waited for 4770.
i wanted it to be power efficeient even if i had a corsair 450 vx
4770 has lower buswidth , and uses faster memory to pump data. i think its more efficient than 4850, which uses slower mem.
DDR5 with less voltage... and 4770 is much more overclockable than 4850
for these advantages i felt i shouldnt be geting 4850 which is old and common card.

Ya others are nutz to get this...and be a part of the so called common.

^^nope that psu of urs howeva good isn't enough to juice a 4850. U are good with a 4670 that's what i wud suggest. Wt resolution are u gonna utilize the gpu??

See if u can find a Radeon 4730 anywhere. Its based on the RV770 chip but theyve cut it down to the same specs as the 4770. It was released in some markets to make up for 4770 shortages. I havent seen one in India but I almost picked one up in Singapore recently. Was for 135 SGD which is about 4.5k! But the high idle power consumption put me off and i bought a 4850 finally. If the 4730 is available here should be 5.5k max

Information about 4730 is a bit hard to come by,and there's no information about its release in India. But it doesn't really matter because the 4730 has higher power consumption, and I'm already pushing it with 4770.With my psu,4770 is the best card I can get,but I don't want to spend so much on a card thats supposed to be cheap...

HD 4770 isn't worth that amount.

Even 7.3k for Sapphire is bit High,Mediahome started selling MSi One's for 6.5k,Stock Finished soon.

XFX HD 4770 (The forty one)costed 7.7k. [This card maybe worth that much]

Again it went out of stock within 3 days time :|

Now HD 4770 costs between 7~8k,MSI one is for 8.1k.

This card is over-priced !

Maybe due to limited availability.

In my case,I waited 1 month for this card, but its price were inflated.

I ended up with GTS 250.

Your best buy is GTS 250 > HD 4850 > 9800GT,If you have a decent power supply.

Exactly.I DON'T have a decent power supply, and buying one won't help,so I'm stuck with the 4770,or just getting the 4670 and hoping I can play the new games coming out with it at low settings and low resolutions...

Problem being, at 1280X1024 the refresh rate goes down to 60Hz in most 17 inchers, unless u have a high end viewsonic or sony.

Would recommend a refresh rate of at least 75 Hz on a CRT, afaik max res at that refresh rate is 1152X864

oh k....

The refresh rate of the monitor is No Problemo if its an LCD! If a CRT then also the GPU cant do anything about it. Get the HD4770 if u have LCD or HD4670 if u have CRT then.

Oh i assumed u meant it was a CRT. If like sato said its a LCD then 60 Hz is the normal refresh rate and theres no problem

Even i dont know, whether he has LCD or CRT.. CRT 60Hz is pretty wierd... My samsung samtron does 120Hz and the Panasonic CRT does 100 Hz :S

@Op: are u sure 60Hz is the Max ur CRT can go?

(Right Click-> Display properties-> Settings-> Advanced-> Monitor-> Refresh Rate)

If YES, then you better get a new CRT or a LCD as 60Hz on a CRT mean visible flicker and thats not good for your Eyes at all!:cool2: It should atleast do 75Hz

EDIT: Oh i just Found that this stupid office pc's stupid onboard gfx cannot push my Samsung crt past 75hz whereas my 6600GT used to take this to 120hz

PS: Gfx recommendation stays same:

HD4770 if u think of upgrading monitor in future

HD4670 if u want to keep your CRT or if you are tight on budget
