Sorry for the double post, just wondering whether anyone here has used 4770 with a 300W psu(20A on the rails).

And is there a time limit for editing your posts?

Its a HIPRO psu, used in a lot of assembled HP and Dell systems(and btw it wasn't my idea to get an assembled pc :)).I think its a decent brand, and since its not generic I'm pretty sure that even if it does die it won't take the system along with it.

^^Its your wish then.. I know about Hipro, have used it... Though it is better than intex stuff, still it isnt in same league of Gigabyte 460W (FSP 400W OEM)..

So, if i were you, i wouldnt mind spending 2k on a Good PSU to safebound a 6k GPU and a few HDDs...

Hence my 2 cents:

1. Get a Gigabyte 460W - Rs. 1.7k/1.9k after selling your Hipro

2. Get a Palit 9800GT - Rs. 5.6k from theitwares.com (mumbai)

Total = 7.3k something = Much Better than 4770 on a uncertain and old 300W psu

Else if budget no tension then:

1. Get a Corsair CX400 - Rs. 2.8k something after sellling hipro

2. Get a Palit 9800GT

here you can upgrade to HD4870 later after upgrading to a 22" or 24" monitor.

I like that...well,I'm still trying to find 4770 for a good price,if not I've also thought of something else.I could get a 4670(Rs4600)which I think will be good enough for a year on a 17" monitor. Then next year I can buy a better PSU and another 4670,which will be dirt cheap by then, crossfire the 2 cards which I think will give me a performance a bit better than 4850 :)

i dont know how u guys think u can run a 4770 with a iffy psu , the link below shows it does need a good pwersupply of atleast 450 watts

techPowerUp :: AMD Radeon HD 4770 Review :: Page 26 / 32

450 is what recommenced, in testing its seen that max power used was in range of 210-220 , so a decent PSU will do

this is what ppl considered when they advised abt PSU.

on other hand 4850 needs a good 450 w PSU as its not that power efficient.

This chart can help you

ATI Radeon: HD 4850 HD 4830 HD 4770 HD 4670 HD 3870

Power Consumption (peak) ~110W ~110W ~80W ~59W ~105W

Lowest price for 4770 was 8K...I finally went for the 4670,pretty happy with it till now.Plays COD5,Assassin's Creed,Bioshock great. The real test will come near the end of the year, when all the new games come out...
