I am planning to upgrade my monitor and go with a HD monitor (Dell ST2220L may be)..Currently I am gaming at 1440*900..how will my current setup perform in full HD resolution 1920 x 1080 with medium setting and 2x AA or o AA

not too good, I tried it and it can't take most of the new heavy games...so I would advice upgrading it

too bad..i will wait then, upgrading the whole pc is not in my card

Get a 5850-6970 or more depending on the games you want to play and the type of settings you want to use at 1920x1080

Grab a new 20" BenQ LED monitor, those displays are brilliant. And they offer 1600x900 resolution. Good gaming guranteed.

Also, you wont need to upgrade the whole CPU. HD5770s are getting cheaper by the day.

For all the people suggesting those cards, wont it be bottle-necked by his E5200 proccy at stock ?

OP you'll be served well by getting a HD5770 and just pushing/OCing your processor a bit.

Good point..

scrap all, upgrade when ivy bridge comes next year alongwith HD7000 28nm series

till then, for dx9 settings(dont think our cards will anyways be able to run crysis 2 at dx11) HD4850 is good enough at 1440x900.

Hey can you tell me how the hd4850 handles games like crysis and others in 1440*900, as i was considering to get a used one

Well if you want to upgrade then do it as soon as you have the money for it. If you cannot purchase everything at a single time then phase it out over a time period suitable for you.

As per your current needs 4850 will not manage well enough at 1080p, though it wont be bad either (unless you have laser precision eyes and would cry at anything less than high settings and 16AA,AF soft shadows blablabla).
Getting a new GPU will be good provided you can OC your proccy as it will be severe bottleneck.

My advice would be to get the monitor and squeeze out your GPU as long as you can. When you finally upgrade you could spare some extra cash into other components. Though the flip side is that later on you could probably get a 24incher or the same monitor for a much lesser price.

So choose as you wish.

1440-900 med-high and 40+ fps, I think

btw, with your CPU a 4850 or GTX 580 will both give you similarly bad performance in many of today's games because you simply won't get the power needed by your cpu.

Anything less than a Core i5 750 isn't good enough for my gaming at least, imo

At full HD, a HD4850 should let you play most games at high, though in others u might have to tweak it down a little. But with crysis 2 on the way, it might not take the hit. :P

Get a HD monitor dude, then think of upgrading the card etc. For the first few months u will just be stuck with HD movies and stuff. :)

Once Crysis 2 and other wave of games are out, maybe then you can buy the best card possible for your budget. But before upgrading the GPU, its the CPU that matters a lot.

You seriously need to overclock the E5200 to get a lot of performance boost. I remember running it at ~3.6 and it makes the HD4850 bloom in its real glory. Maybe you will leave your idea of upgrading the card once you overclock. Give it a try :)
