Graphic Cards 4870 or 5770?

Try not to use CCC Auto-Tune. I used it this weekend, useless. Just made my system hang. Your results seem interesting. SF4 has a benchmark utility -- what you get on that. Also is GPU-Z showing your accelerator on full link..?

Also any other game results/benchmarks. Not fair to base a cards feedback on one game...!

Okay....

1. Get ur CPU to 3GHz, yeah loosen the baby, give it some space to breathe

2. Remove any OC on the card

3. Make sure the PCEi 6 pin connector is properly connected

4. Now, run a stress test.

Download MSI Kombustor 1.0, its a good stress test. Run it for a while.

5. Try keeping fan speed manually at about 45-50% while gaming using MSI After Burner 1.5.0 just released.

Yup...I have removed OCing and now I am running on Stock....Just OCied for 15 mins to check the stability.

So what do u reckon to OC?

As of now I don't have wny other game installed. What game do u suggest for benchmarking?

Also, What does this mean? "is GPU-Z showing your accelerator on full link":S

I tried running at stock as well as 3.35Ghz and get the same results. The RAMS run at 740 (Multiplier of 2).....

Don't think I need to adjust the FAN speed as even on load the temps only touch 75-80 degrees

RE5, Warhead, COD: MW2 are good. Though Warhead is old, but it stresses the system well using Dx10.

By full link I meant, is it showing PC.E x 16 @ 16. Run Furmark, and check GPU-Z. It should should PC.E 2.0 x 16 @ 16 or something similar.

Try KOMBUSTOR, it's an OPENGL stress test...
Or Alternatively u can use ATi TOOL

As for Fan speed, well that's a useful suggestion.

Try anything between 40-50% (no use going higher) while gaming, I bet u'll be surprised at the load temps...

@asingh: Below are the screens of GPUZ

As it can be seen below its shows full PCIE 16X

I am confused as to why the fan speed is shown as BLANK ALWAYS...even at 100% CPU LOAD:huh::huh::huh::huh::huh:

I checked and the Fan does rorate and when I increase the fan speed manually the fan speed increases but the GPUZ fan speed comes as blank

@compaddict

Installed KOMBUSTOR ran a bench mark and stability test. Results below:

Benchmark (1920*1080, 4XAA)

For Stability, I ran the test for 10 mins and I was reallly surprised with the results:

Results:

Max frames: 333 Min Frames: 13 Avg Frames: 60

Highest temp: 98 Deg

Lowest: 57 (for like 5 secs:))

The fan profile was in 70% when performing this test.

So, Guys what's the verdict?

Also, Next I am gonna install some games and do a bench mark in SF4

Vercetti, as I told you before. You are jumping to conclusions here, based on one game. And that too SF4. Try to bench it using other games and/or 3D Vantage. Get one thing to work correctly (your GPU) and gauge it for performance, benchmark it. Then post this step, move to OC'ing the accelerator or the CPU.

Edit:
Saw your screen shots now. Bench it on other games and 3d Vantage.

Nah nah....

I just posted the results of KOMPBUSTOR....Wanted to know if u guys think the results were fine?

I have left the SF4 dilema....:ohyeah:

I did a GPUZ test as u asked and KOMPBUSTOR test as compaddict asked...

Will install RE5 and do other things u asked....

The tests were taken with GPU running at stock clocks:) and PC running at 3.35GHZ on air

EDIT:

Dude...is '3DMark06" and 3D vantage the same??...

As I said I am a n00b:ashamed:

3d Vantage is for Dx10. You are on Win7, so use this. 3DMark06 does not push the GPU as much compared to 3d Vantage, it was more CPU dependent.

Just installed RE5.

Did a benchmark and got a average FPS of 52 frames. ^&%$ I got a 'B' rating by the results:)

Settings:

Everything Maxxed out

1920*1080

VSync: ON

FSAA : 4X

52 is pretty good I think at 4XAA, and VSYNC on

VSYNC = ON, will CAP it to your refresh rate. But will prevent 'tearing'. So since you are in the process of benching it, try it with VSYNC = OFF. Though have a feeling you will probably get the same. But whats the harm in trying.

At least there is a " :) " on someone's face......!

vsync locks ur frame rate to 60.....and 50 for PAL videos (like in PS1)

so, even if ur card can generate, like 100-120 frames average, it will come out to be 60

this options is given cos excess frame rates causes the video to stutter, become laggy and results in poor frame rates

but it usually happens with high end cards, like 5870 or 5890, unless ur playing super mario:) (no offence, please)

so, i keep it off, especially when benchmarking, or when u want to know how ur card performs while playing any specific game

Dessn't Keeping it ON increases Visuals? I thought Since I was getting 52 with VSYNC on I better keep it:)

VSYNC makes sure max fps doesn't cross ur Monitor refresh rate which most probably is 60,,

and to tell u the truth, Vsync is a BIG PAIN as it causes even games like Mass Effect to stutter on my HD5850...

So finally it's worth taking the 5770 over the 4870?

Im getting the 5770 for around 9 while the 512 of the 4870 is around 8k but then it IS an older card and consumes more power. What should i go for?

5770...with1k difference 5770 is a clear winner with better dx support and less power consumption

not to mention 2-3 HDMI and 2 DVI outputs
