^ Only 512MB VRAM, 295 is 275's in SLi, 4850 (faster than 4770) CF cant beat GTS 250 (9800GTX/GTX+) SLI ie. 9800GX2 in other words (it was also 128SP 256bit GPU). 9800GX2 competes against 4870, 260 upto 1680, @ full HD it struggles also.

IMO CF/SLi is only worthy when you already have single fastest GPU.

Meh, I wonder why similar threads keep popping up - a couple of months back it was 4870 1GB vs GTX 260 216!

Both the cards are good in their own aspects. The GTX scores in Farcry 2, Crysis: Warhead over the 4890 whereas the latter leads the GTX in most other games (and some synthetic benchmarks!) where the game's able to utilize the 1GB frame buffer and if the screen resolution is 1920x1200 and higher.

I'd vouch for the 4890 1GB though!

yep, check results when AA turned at 1920. It cant compete against 280 when AA turned ON, nowhere close to GTX 295.

Now single 4890/275 is cheaper than 4770 CF. Single 4890 overclocked also competes against 285.

The con with 4770 CF is games need to be designed to take advantage of multiple video cards. Why go for dual GPU solution, when similar performing single card is avl at same or less price.

I wud say go 4 the single fastest gpu that ur money allows u 2 buy.dual gpus r good only in games which support them.bet the 4890 & GTX 275 u can buy either of them.both r good cards.

any new updates on the same question ?

even i am facing the same dilemma :(

i am not sure which card should i buy ..
from these :

GTX 275/ 260/ ati 4890...

also it matters to me a lot that card should be less power hogger in idle mode..

warm regards
can anyone plz put some light on the question ?

warm regards

The cards are more of less the same. It comes down to the games. Most games run better on nVidia cards when the cards are the same power... Plus you get full PhysX effects if you go for nVidia.

bet the HD4890 & GTX 275 the later wud consume lower pwr when idling.

how much power it consumes when it is idle (not doing any intense work like playing a game likecrysis)?

can anyone prove this- "Most games run better on nVidia cards when the cards are the same power"

+1 for nvidia. nv pulls out far ahead from ati based on their software support. heck, just the unavailability of custom profiles for ati is a good enough reason to avoid them. add the fact that ati is still stuck in 2007 renaming ue3 engine game executables. nv get game profiles out faster, sli support out faster... nvidia and evga come out with sli patches, precision software... lots of useful things that ati lags behind in.

Why so much discussion. Toss a coin n decide. They are more or less same. fanboys will alwayz argue. Both have advantages n disadvantages.

Ps- Please dont take any offense of the post above.

^So true that. A couple of months back it was the GTX260 216 vs HD4870 1GB and now it has come up a level! I dont see any point arguing here and I've no clue when someone puts up a irrelevant or rather an FUD'ed statement like "Most games run better on nVidia cards when the cards are the same power".

PS: Better have the discussion left here! I'm open to constructive criticism/arguments.
