No my experience is limited to the Bangalore area and because the HQ of GIGABYTE distributors is there, it was a fine experience (although long drawn).

So I cannot give them a free pass here, also over-all negative reports have reached me for GIGABYTE in certain towns of India.

man which firm has generally good service all over India?. I feel sad when hardware manufacturers dont provide support for such expensive piece of hardware.

Any knowledge about Flipkart's 30 day replacement thingy? Is it reliable for gpus? I think unless the gpu is DOA or has a manufacturing defect, it'll work generally work well for quite a few years.

They will pick the device from your place, put it in for RMA and then you can twiddle your thumbs OR tear your hair till flipkart.com gets the refurbished replacement back to you.

OR you can cut them out and do it yourself.

But a vendor like Flipkart can apply more pressure on the dealer than a signal customer for a quick replacement, no?

The above statement I made was what I observed happened with DoA ASUS wireless dongles and routers when they were brought into Rashi Delhi's office.

They might be able to exert more pressure on the distributor / service centre for a speedy recovery of the hardware but that does not change the fact that most such devices are not brand new (refurbished pieces). So you may OR may not circumvent the problem and gain a trouble free experience.

One more thing while you are a single customer you can escalate the issue after multiple replacements and cut a deal with the company (happened with one of my friends) but if you pool in your hardware with the DoA stock on delivery you cannot pin the issue and ask for a more nuanced approach to the same.

Hope this answers your query. Cheerio!

Flipkart replaces GPUs with any fault in 30 days no questions asked. I've tried it and it took exactly 5 days for me to get the brand new replacement delivered at my doorstep. They did call me up multiple times to confirm things though. Have to admit that considering how bad hardware distributors' services are, this was pretty spectacular.

OT :

You really seem to be lucky in these things.
Flipkart generally cries a lot while replacing things which are expensive. Small things are fine, but if it is worth more, its a headache.
I was denied a replacement and were forcing me to take wallet balance. Fought for 4 months to get my money. 4 months aint fast!!
But yeah you are right, shop and distributors aint saints, so I guess we should toss a coin :bleh:.

Oh, man, I had a really harrowing experience trying to RMA my Acer laptop a few years back, I definitely do not want to go through that nightmare again. Should I just go for the Sapphire then because of their better customer service?

Hmm, Sapphire it is then. I hope I don't regret this later. harry_houdini Chaos ALPHA17 and everyone else, thanks for your assistance in helping me make a choice. I'll order the 7950 Boost on Monday. I'll update the thread once I get it. That lack of PhysX would be a biter though.

I don't have much experience handling gpus, all you have to do is stick in the pcie slot and attach two power cables, right?

Edit:
Woah, seems like the Vapor-X version is available now on Flipkart now at 23888/- Should I go for it? And, will I need to update the BIOS for Boost functionality? Will it have any trouble fitting in my Asus P8Z77-MPRO?

I knew this would come to Sapphire if you go for AMD HD series:P,Very good ASS speaking from a personal experience with RMA of my HD6850,Get the Vapox-X it'd be better for you.

vapor x mate, its a no brainer. But it says available, its not in stock. So might take a week or even 2 weeks to get delivered. Call up and ask flipkart what is the maximum they will take to deliver.
You can see from reviews of other graphics cards where people have complained of waiting for even a month. So call and clear things first.

Yes, just make sure that no cable is interfering OR routed through that area.

Attach card, put in the PCIe Power cables and you are good to roll.

Your motherboard has a clean layout so you should not run into any issues. Although your PCIe x1.0 slot will be blocked off.

Go for the Vapor-X edition, just be aware that the card is taller than the stock layout and heat-sink + shroud system. So measure if you have that much clearance in your cabinet bay-area before ordering.

I checked and this card has a higher core-clock than the Vapor-X edition -- http://www.flipkart.com/sapphire-amd-hd-7950-3gb-gddr5-flex-3-gb-graphics-card/p/itmddu7gvtdk9hgr?pid=GRCDDU7GCRBHNZPN&ref=358c5bda-3dbd-4795-b240-795114dbf646&srno=t_2&otracker=from-search&query=AMD%20HD7950

Hope this helps, Cheers!

I opened my case to check the space and look at the power cables. Though the psu has enough of them, all of them look like this rather than what slots of the gpu look like. Will I be getting additional cables to connect the gpu with the power cables?

I think I'm well covered when it comes to the size. The Vapor-X actually has boost switch which overclocks it to 950 Mhz

Thanks, I hadn't noticed that. I'll call and confirm the availability in a min.

No, you will just need 1 xPCIe 75W 6-pin connector + 1 xPCIe 75W 8-pin connector and your SMPS has both, so quit worrying.

Looks like this --

Alright, cool. It's just that I didn't see any wires like those. And, I think that the Vapor-X OC is a revised version which uses two 8-pin connectors.

Not an issue, I think you can get a 6-pin to 8-pin converter locally if that is the case. The power-draw is the same on both pins as far as I know.

No it seems that the 8-pin power-draw is ~150W. But still it remains backwards compatible somehow. Need to do more homework myself.

Alright, here's the thing. I checked the psu's box and found a packet of cables. Two of these were marked PCI-E, and they can function as both 6-pin or 8-pin connectors. I've attached them to the psu. It shouldn't matter now whether the gpu is 6+8 or 8+8 now.
