XFX, EVGA, MSI, Sapphire, ASUS, Gigabyte, Biostar, BFG???
which one has a better build quality and OK price???

look at this noobie

when ppl are shelling out their cards to buy 8800gt this noobie is willing to get 1 gtx

instead of that make 8800gt sli setup

it would cost less even if u need to buy sli board

he doesnt become a noobie ..just because he prefers 8800gtx instead of a 8800gt SLI setup..maybe he doesnt have a sli ready motherboard or enough power ?

and also please dont forget..there are many hidden costs in a sli setup

like additional electricity consumption bill, a bigger PSU, more GPU fan cooler noise and the need to shell out more money for an SLI mobo

..it aint that easy..and maybe thats the reason we dont see people going on for sli setups

also ..there is only a 30-40 % max boost performance wise in a SLI setup

and according to this review..

GeForce 8800 GT 512MB SLI review

a 8800GT SLI setup is on par with a single 8800GTX..

the main thing you need to keep in mind is the heat produced by the 2 cards..and a SLI motherboard..

so i would still suggest to go for a 8800gtx..even if you have a sli ready motherboard..u can add another 8800gtx later on (if u really want to)when uve got more cash and the prices come down a bit after the launch of 9 series cards..

i read about a 8800gts refresh where it comes with the same number of stream processors as the 8800gt making it the faster card of the two. if you are on a budget you could wait for that as well

dude faheem u mistaken buddy and that too badly

there is a review of bfg 8800gt 512 mb and in that it shows that a single card is near to 8800gtx and just lagging 3% behind by average

and cosidering an sli setup it gives boost of 60% - 90% but nothing less than that

and u considering hidden costs

well let me get this clear

650i sli based board are for cheap 7-8k

2 8800gt will cost near 28k

good smps (500w is enuf as they are 105w tdp but we take cm 600w) 4k

considering all these costs

28k+7k+4k we get a total of 39k which is just more than 8800gtx which retails at abt 31k (here i am talking abt evga superclocked version) +4k for smps as he will need to have one for gtx too

which comes to around 35k and still consumes more power than 8800gt in sli

and still what we get from this setup is less frame rates then what 8800gt in sli can give

so its upto u

ur call

i am not saying to go for sli only but just that its an option if he wants to play at insane resolutions

so the buyers call

take a fancy 8800gtx just for the name of it or go with wise ppl who are selling their 8800gts just for getting 8800gt !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@faheem

u sincerely blind mate

the comparisions of sli and single setup is given in different graph

just check it out before

sli setup even manages past ultra one

Woah there just because 8800GT is retailing doesnt mean 8800GTX sales will fall down .. people will still go for 8800GTX coz its a powerful beast for higher resolutions. anyway if naive_harry's gaming resolution is not much, 8800GT would be his best bet..

the point that naive harry is making here is which brand to go for instead of a sli setup
i'de say wait till diwali over and then get a good XFX for MSI make also the RMA thing is good.
my choice would be XFX.
the rest is upto you

yeah XFX is the most preferred...but if it doesnt fit in his budget he may get a Zebronics or BIG cards..which are not that bad...but XFX is preferred..

Just as the 'naive' in naive_harry doesn't mean he is naive for sure, the 'ultima' in ultimabasher doesn't make you the ultimate word on anything- forget bashing up people. :bleh:
Forums are a place to help others- enlighten the ignorant (or even those who are too busy with other stuff to stay in touch with tech.)
Most techies for that matter have to take help of forums as their day to day schedule leaves them with almost no time for some self research. :P
naive_harry maybe one who knew the 8800GTX is supreme or might have really liked it whe he saw/played games at his friend's place or something like that.
8800GT is something that only most geeks/nerds(includes gamers) know of.
Most info about good stuff trickles down to the average user after a much larger time lapse since launch. :cool2:
And from the looks of it, he seems to be the local buyer and the 8800GT is not even spoken of to customers here, forget the launch date.
So if he didn't know, it's absolutely understandeable. :)
UB- i request you to be more toned down in your interaction with everyone. :)
(All knowledge/info is acquired from somewhere- no one was born with it. :cool2: )

@naive_harry- Speaking of locally available brands, XFX is more less one of the best manufacturers worldwide.
BUt they are also pricier usually.

BIG and Leadtek make some decently affordable cards with fairly acceptable quality and are generally priced lower than XFX.
(some versions from the same are at times better than the regular XFX models too.) :)

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

alright alright

but that doesnt mean banning me will solve everything

@devil

care to explain why am i irritating

OK here is the thing,

I know abt 8800 GT but its new and is not settled yet, not many benchmark VGA charts have 8800 GT on them, like in tomshardware.com

and moreover a SLI rig needs cooling solutions i can not afford, and plus there is a costlier PSU and i will need something with more than 650 W from coolermaster or stuff which wouln't really fit in my budget...

Like crisis is out there and i really have this feeling that buying a 8800 GTX

is better and i am going to game at 1280*1024 with AA and AF enabled to full scale and highest details in game and i want a decent frame rate of 30 and above at all times which i don't think that a single 8800 GT will provide in newer directx 10 games to come, did you look at the tech specs, memory bandwidth(86.4 GB/sec as compared to 57.6 GB/sec) , memory interface(384 bits as compared to 256 bit) and obviously memory amount(768 MB as compared to 512 MB) which is nothing but a buffer and will be needed for games with massive textures that are to come, a single 8800 GTX will beat 8800 GT and i am pretty sure that in times to come 8800 GTX rates will come down...

And the SLI thing, the only noticeable difference that come are at higher resolutions when performance of a single graphic card deteriorates like nothing

so i am not a noobie or whatever...

haha ultima got bashed!

8800GT is in short supply I guess.. It will soon come to India and we will know the rates by then.. Should be around 17K after initial prices fall..

Yeah i agree ... ultimabasher, u got to be more polite ... this is a public forum .. and some etiquettes are needed.
And @naive_harry ... if u r getting the GTX ... try EVGA from KMD .... :) best deal ....

dude ... EVGA from KMD ... i repeat .. 8800 gtx EVGA .... from KMD .. it is the best deal for u ....
Pretty strong opinion- but w/o any basis.
Will it be best to buy 8800GTX for a 17"CRT or 19-22" LCD- given the performance of the 8800GT?? :P
good, better, best are relative terms pal- use them carefully. :)
@NH- if it's not urgent- lotsa peeps are getting the 8800GT soon including Funky. :D
So expect a full fledged real life test in Indian conditions out soon. :ohyeah:

Shouldn't be later that you feel you could have easily had the 8800GT- from wherever you like- and still game away to your heart's content- at a much lower price than the 8800GTX.
The 8800GT is indeed a revival/comeback of what a good midrange card should be like.
Some seem to have have forgotten what/how a midrange card should be and are unnecessarily compating it to the 8800GTX.
Take your time- as it is reports say that the 8800GT will be hitting the $200 mark sooner than we know.
Its just selling at more than the estimated $250 mark bcoz of the mad rush and limited stocks.
A similar rush ensued when the 2900pro was out recently but quite a few peeps might be regretting it now. :ashamed:

it released on my B'day ie, 29th october
it costs around $250, so ull have to check out a store near you or nehru place if u live in new delhi, india

dude for anything below 1600 resolutions..the 8800 will give good frames. wait for a couple of weeks, check the benchies n then decide wat to buy. u dont wanna regret one month down the line, do you?
