how is this 8600GT pathetic when members claim they are able to play crysis smoothly on 1024x768 medium settings??!

yea they claim they can run it on that resolution but did they told how much fps they are getting ? i bet not more then 25 whereas 9600gt will crossover 40 fps even at almost all high settings

8600gt was no different from 7600gt and it was just in market as a test card :bleh: , thats why i skipped it and waited and now i am a proud owner of 9600gt :cool2:

hmmm.....still would it not be good enough for me with my 17" CRT even now ?......actually i am looking for a sub 5k card and 8600 fits in ......any suggestions ?

I say buy it, butt it depends, if u have a core 2 duo PC (alleast 1.8 + 1.8 = 3.6 GHz) buy it as 1024*768 resolution fits this card quite nicely. And if u have 1 gb ram upgrade it to 2 gb and upgrade or downgrade to XP SP3. Hope this helps. :cool2:

@SidhuPunjab
the 174.xx drivers aren't for 8600GT.. I checked out the nvidia driver downloads site and on choosing 8600GT it shows 169.xx as the current driver(dec 2007) Is it a glitch on the website?

I owns a 8600GT. At stock the card is nothing to write about.

It can't play Crysis at 1024X768+medium settings all the way. In Core as well final level you are bound to get some serious lags at these settings.

I know from my experience that at 1024X768, 8600GT barely makes cut for F.E.A.R. and at 1440X900 for CoD2 (around 35 FPS).
However, it is also true that for budget gamers for 4.5K 8600GT is a very nice card. but when it was launched it was costing around 8.5K. This was a very bad price for this card. Most of all it carried X600 GT moniker that it does not deserve.

Nvidia could have named it 8500GTX and I had no trouble with it. But by naming a card 8600GT, you are cashing on the image of X600 GT series to sell a inferior card. Bad Nvidia, very bad Nvidia :no:
Which procy do u have ??

I play Crysis at 1024x768 - Shadow + PP + Particles Medium, REst all High, and get abt 25FPS avg which is quite enough for CRysis.

Stalker - 1440x900 - Almost max setings - 35-45FPS

Oblivion - 1440x900 - All sliders max except Grass at 60% - 30-40FPS

What more shud a 8600GT give ..... surely ur system has some problem or u r using old drivers.

CPU is E4400 with 2 GB RAM.

I too get around 25-30 FPS at these settings but when the things get hot as in lots of bangs and explosions it lags. and i hate even slightest of lag in FPS. I can't term it smooth play. specially when you play last level, your game play with 8600GT at the above mentioned settings is not gonna be smooth.
