Vip brands are 70% efficient as far as my knowledge. If not please enlighten..-

yes they are, give or take a few % pts... those few % pts are probably the reason for the different views here ... but guys, a bit of headroom when it comes to the PSU's output is always desirable... so as such for anything more than a 9600GT, a better PSU is advisable....

It's a VIP.
Need a say more? I'd rather not

I bought this SMPS 2 years back.

At that time i was given the impression in SP Road that this the best amongst the locally made PSU's

Was i wrong?

VIP is a gud brand and my friend is running a VIP 400W with his Core 2 Duo E7400 and 9800GT(non green edition) and there's been no problem, running for a long time now

^^ exactly. If OP wants to conduct a running experiment like madnav & saquib are doing, then he's welcome :-)

@stalker; :bleh:I am not experimenting :)

@World; See, I am a fully satisfied by this PSU. Sometimes people are obsessed with certain companies & just keep on suggesting them. I have also seen people recommending VX450 for even a basic rig :S People who are on low budget are also recommended this PSU. But I think this type of configs don't require VX450. I mean grow up people, I agree that this power supply is good, but I think companies that don't do marketing stuff(like VIP) should also be given importance. I have VIP Gold 500W PSU and OP has 400W PSU, thats the difference.

And yes, I am not a fanboy of any company or anything like that. Its just that sometimes you have to try other things also. My PSU gives 70 % efficiency, is a 500W, and comes with 3 years warranty. And this all, for 2.2k bucks. So I think those on low budget, can definitely try this out.

agreed with saqib here....

even Powersafe and Zebronics are such brands which are good performers(powersafe is at an even lower range of 1.2-2k) and they are grossly underrated

Have you guys ever had hardware fail with Powersafe/Zebronics psus?

You guys need to realize that you get what you pay for. Minus the Zebronics Pro series, the rest of the crap these companies make is not good for running a very basic rig.

The point I am making is not for folks to buy a VX450 like everyone here seems to be assuming.

@Saquib if you take a look at the suggestions i posted in my previous post in this thread, you will find options that cost as much as you paid and are still wayy better.

Also, @ all please stop calling Powersafe/Zebronics good performers. They are basic power supplies that cannot be trusted with high end hardware.

It should run fine on this smps as the card is un-powered one . Try to get an Zebronics Platinum 400 watts which will be very stable and efficiency, silent than VIP where i ran my 8600GT without problems.

^^it will. even OP's 9800gt green wud run fine.

The pcie slot provides max 150w theoretically. so for 150w amps needed on 12v rail is 12.5A. The 400w gold smps has 2 dual rail afaik i had one 14A and 15A wer rating. it handled 7950gt easily with a 6pin connector but cudnt handle a 7800gtx 512mb(restarted during gaming sessions or shutdown). that one worked fine with 500w gold vip.

Rest of config was x2 3800+, 2gb ram, a8n-e, 1 sata hdd, 2 fans.

The same smps is handling E8400,4gig pi black, 96gt and ip35e so go on :D
