I received the Asus WL-520gU from KMD just a few weeks back, it is still in stock at Newegg and it does everything the bigger Asus does, just limited to one USB port and lesser memory. Hardly makes a difference for torrent downloads.

Newegg.com - ASUS WL-520gU IEEE 802.3/3u/3x, IEEE 802.11b/g Wireless Router with All-in-One Print Server/ DD-WRT Open Source support - Wireless Routers

err it does... just start 3-4 torrents simultaneously and then ssh to your router and run top.

An update. MH selling 520GU for Rs.2500 and N13U for Rs.3250.

  • The Asus WL-520GU has a 200Mhz Processor (Broadcom BCM5354) and 4MB/32MB of Flash/Ram and supports DD-WRT officially.
  • The Asus RT-N13U has a 385Mhz Processor (Ralink RT3052F) and 4MB/32MB of Flash/Ram and doesn't support DD-WRT officially and no unofficially support as of yet.
  • The Asus RT-N16 has a 533Mhz Processor (Broadcom BCM4718) and 32MB/128MB of Flash/Ram and doesn't support DD-WRT officially, however a dd-wrt firmware for it has been released.

ok am considering this for my 24/7 downloads - mix of http:torrent in a 80:20 ratio.

few questions :

1. power consumption : set this up with wireless on, external 2.5" hdd on usb - what is the expected power consumption ?

- how does this power consumption compare to say - an eeepc4g running windows 7 with the same 2.5" hdd on usb?

significant benefits vis a vis power consumption if any?

2. how is the inbuilt http/ftp downloader ? i still prefer http/0day ftp servers to torrenting.

thanks

Folks, I have had tons of PM's over the last few months asking for the Asus router availability. A lot of lower configuration Asus routers are now available with TE dealers and the ASUS WL-500g Premium V2 is also back in stock at NewEgg.

Newegg.com - ASUS WL-500g Premium V2 IEEE 802.3/3u, IEEE 802.11b/g Multi-Functional Wireless Router with x2 USB Plug-N-Share hard drive function and Print Server Function - Wireless Routers

Im also considering selling my ASUS WL-500g Premium V2 router and moving on to another project now !!!

Now in 2011 which router would u suggest for the same purpose ... BTW how fast is file transfer from the the usb drive over wired and wireless connection ??
