Or else have a govt centralized system like Social Security no. and only have that as all the proof that is required. I know there is not fool proof system but then we can try can't we ?
UID. UIDAI
work in progress.
They had a pilot launch in some village in Maharashtra a few months back.
IIRC it will be fully operational and replace all other multiple requirements before the end of this decade. The scope of the project is huge considering our population.

^ ^ My god! You guys make me so proud! Where the hell is that Bingo button! Yes the government has a unified identification numbering plan in the works. The PAN Card initiative was perhaps one of the first stronger policies to be set in motion, but the main motivation was the MooLah generation possibilities associated with it. And please please please lets not get into an argument that implementing UID for a pop of 1.1 bil is no where a short term solution and we need to have something in place NOW!

All in all, my point is just that, I question the efficiency of document submissions when there are so many many many loop holes which makes the entire initiative questionable. Why do consumers have to face the wrath of telcos for them not doing their jobs? And Im being "told" that it is so that I know, AFTER the crime has been committed, who dun it!? Good discussion peeps and I do apologize for the OT =)

I am having a Vodafone prepaid number since 2005 9819######. On Tuesday 22nd February 2011 I got an SMS that "I need to submit my documents by 24th February else my service will be discontinued". I didn't had time & I also forgot to submit documents, so on Friday morning my service was stopped, no network.

On Saturday 26th February I went to Vodafone store & submitted my documents, here the executive is saying that my number has been permanently switched off. it will take at least 7 days to activate the service & if it is not activated then this number is dead, I will have to take a new number.

WTF!!!...I am a vodafone user since 2005, this is how you treat your customers. I spoke to the customer care, they said we cant do anything you will have to wait for 7 days.

I am pissed of with the way they have treated. Loosing a number is like losing an identity in the world. I just need my number back.......
You are with them from 2005 & need to submit paper (again) 1time only. I'm with Vodafone from 2004 & till today I do paper submission for 3 times & finger crossed. After the MNP implementation vodafone gets whooping subscribers & thus AIR went in to their head directly, need some time to settle, till ... just remain with them with all hassle or move with equal or better service provider in your region.

Vodafone even starts practicing like AirTel, deduction of money without prior notification, which they were giving by sending sms prior to MNP.

Prior to MNP, with complaint email they do call or reply mail very effectively & sort out the issue withing 48-72 hrs, but after MNP implementation today is 9th day of my complaint but noting happens & I don't think anything will do positively.

Whatever schemes the government introduces in the name of security are actually meant for harassment to the so called "aam aadmi".

How much ever documents they collect, still you get ample of (so called) kha-cha sim cards. Recently a couple of months ago my friend received around 250 videocon mobile sim cards for activating, using them and throwing them. All these sim cards were registered on false names.

and if u are a mobile connection reseller, you might know that the company distributes them in whole sale to show false subscriber numbers.

The document verification can happen only when the document reaches the expected destination. If the the document did reach the first time they would not ask you to resubmit.

Well, I dunno how it goes for Vodafone but Tata indicom people have harassed me for document submission a number of times. For my secondary number, I have submitted the documents 3 times and that does not include the documents submitted at the time of registration!!

Same is the case with others in my family who use Tata numbers. Each has submitted the documents atleast twice. :(

I only went through the ordeal of submitting the documents thrice coz the number is a VIP/Fancy number that I didn't want to lose.

Perks of having a VIP number :bleh: But fancy number or not.. that's not a reason for demanding address proofs. They have to have a solid reason. Is there anyway to find out if the telco actually has our docs and if not try them in some legal court on how the hell are they running their business. And yes we live in India, you start pressing ppls buttons and someone just stomps your buttons :|

^ ^ Refuse to comply. Issue a complaint to our beloved TRAI. File a court complaint. Heck, even pull in TRAI into court for not enforcing policies. Media sells.

All that you loose is a days productivity (and about Rs.1000). The pleasure that you get from doing something that you feel is right is priceless. And when submitting documents to telco's, request for a proof of receipt. Its that simple =)

My next battle is going to be with all the spam calls that I have been getting on my reliance number from advertisers. Muwahahahah!

^^n00b, when playing with corporates, just make sure that you will not fail. your failure will create a 'precedent' in the court and will effect others. corporates can spend endlessly but you /an individual can't.
