Graphic Cards A tough Choice to make

There is no point in getting stuff from anywhere in the Europe. Specially england.

Its uber expensive with heavy VAT on everything. It almost comes down to what we get it for here in India.

Your best bet is US.

ya coz if like i order off scan.co.uk , w/o vat it turns out to be slightly less than US prices ....... around 215GBP

well also, can any of you guys have any idea where i can get this card in-store (not online) in london ??? coz i mite ask my parents to get it along with a PSU as that wud be easier.......i want in-store coz i wanna reclaim the VAT .....

In the airport , don't they give you VAT reclaim coupons? I think they do..

oops that was 210GBP sorry for the mistake.......and for the VAT refund, u need a filled up VAT refund form frm the retailer, and most of the online sellers don give that

^ My advice, stay away from the UK fracas.

I did the exact same thing, buying a 5950U from Scan and told a friend to get the VAT coupon encashed at the airport.

The VAT coupon never came with the orginal bill and when he e-mailed them and they sent it, the officials rejected it citing some vague reasons.

If your prepared to pay VAT though, go ahead !

well thats y i wanted a local store so i can get a proper form and get it cleared .....i kno it wud be better to get the stuff from US , but still keeping a standby option

CM 600 will be barely enough for this setup, its got 34A @ 12V = 408W
Your system will be using around 400W power easy
Problem comes when the capacitors start degrading in a years time and O/P of the CM 600 falls by around 20% (average estimate if you are planning 24*7 use of the rig); then your PSU can't handle it
So, its better to get something with atleast 40A on 12V for 2 years of normal usage

for around 4k the CM600 was the best bet

The Corsair 620HX as suggested by many is a good buy, 48Amps on 12v, but its around 7.5K
You can ask around for the prices of CM850, dont remember the ratings but it should be good enough, iirc it was around 6k
EDIT : I think it was the CM650, dont recall, you'll have to check
I learnt a lot today.:P

Ok guys...after over an year of waiting around for the perfect time to get a graphic card, i think i hav had enough , and finally my folks are ok with it too.....Now ive got a friend goin over to the US so that is another great sign.....I hav a budget of 20k ( give or take 2k MAX ) ....i've to decide on the 8800gts 640 or the HD 2900XT 512MB........Now i know that the 2900 is not a super card , but do you guys think it would do better to put that extra 2k for it ???? also i will be needing a better supply to go with it......i hav a iNtex Matrix full cabbie...will the cards cr8 any space problems too ???

Also recommend some nice deals from US....i need to finalise it in a weeks time before my friend leaves......

(1)Get a 8800GTS320 and the CM extreme power 600/Corsair HX620 from here.

(2)Get a 8800GTS640 from the US and the Corsair HX620 from here.

(3)8800GTS640 from USA and CM extreme power 600 from here

(4)8800GTS640 and OCZ GX700 or similar from the US.

:cool2:

Since you are already so bugged at the thought of buying a new psu(maybe coz u hoped you could use your intex 400?),

Here's some more bugging.:P

The 2900XT requires an 8-pin PCIe connector+6-pin PCIe connector IIRC- does the card come with one?:S

^^ The card works just fine with 2 x 6-pin PCIe connectors. The 8-pin connector is only required if you want to overclock the card using the Catalyst Overdrive feature.

yeah ... also heard the pcie 2 ver of the card wont require the extra 8 pin connector (maybe both the connectors) cause it could draw up the power directly from the mobo :S

well i wasnt ever bugged with the thot of buyin a new PSU man, i just failed to mention it initially.....i am gonna buy a new PSU ... i might be thinking of the OCZ 700 W from the US , around 6k , and nice ratings and stuff....but will be over the budget a bit i guess, but lets hope i can can go over drive a bit

well as of now the CM 600 seems out of the picture coz i checked and yeah , since it is the xtremepower series, it wont hold me up for long......so i am lookin at the OCZ 700 , but the total comes out to be a bit more than my budget....what do you say about this PSU ???
Newegg.com - XCLIO GREATPOWER X14S4P4 600W ATX12V 600W Power Supply 100-240V / 200-240V UL, CUL, TUV, CB, VDE, FIMKO, DEMKO, NEMKO, SEMKO - Retail
Seems to have similar ratings as the OCZ one

or maybe this one
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
seems nice too and lesser than US price even after VAT

I don't have much idea abt the psu's that you have listed but there is more to it than just the ratings , for example the temperature at which they can deliver that power ... most of these psu's are rated at 25degrees whereas the higher end ones are rated at 50degrees.

The Corsair at 7k in mumbai is a better buy than the OCZ which is for 6k on newegg and you would get 5 years local warranty ... though both should suit you fine

XClios are BAD. Do not go for them.

I suggest just go a bit over budget and get the OCZ GX 700W.

Its abso-smacking-lutely worth it!

i guess the one i showed you was 5k.......ya i know local warraty wud be an up but 7k is a bit too much, i'm already overexceeding my exceeded budget.........

ya i know, but i think Xclio Greatpowers are on the toplist of tomhardwares PSU tear, along with OCZ .......i'll see what i can do.....
btw how do i delete the bottom post ?
