^ That wont solve the issue. Maybe we could have a dedicated Apple sub-forum?

iPod, iTunes, Macs, OS X, etc etc all go in there?

Will certainly help the Google hits too, with Apple sales growing.

Even better i say!:D

Hackintosh isn't a legal stuff ! So if you guys plan to start a forum for the same it won't be entertained, for anything else I would also recommend OSX section..

BTW please do not consider OSS section to be purely linux section ! OSS is not only confined to Linux :)

Hackintosh isn't a legal stuff

the legality of osx86 treads a fine line...same way as modded consoles do...

e.g what about a user who is running OS X with a legally bought copy of Leopard (very much available in India) off a Apple Desktop where he retained say the HDD, GPU and display but decided to upgrade the mobo and CPU?

Is he breaking a law by running osx86 on the aforementioned system?

Which is incorrect. Apple hasn't been successfully able to sue Psystar and though you can say parts of the EULA are violated, using a legit copy of Leopard as Superczar said is legal from the software perspective (i.e. you will receive updates from Apple, etc.)

I'd suggest you do your homework before making a blanket statement like that :)

Another Mac user here. I would love to see a dedicated "Apple" or "OS X" sub-forum on TE :)

I think you should have one irrespective of the number of OSX users. Just to keep things more organized, if nothing else.

For the first time maybe, i am posting in a thread without having read it entirely, atleast properly. :P
Actually i haven't even read Supey's first post properly and am totally going as per the title of this thread. :ashamed:

But i am in favour of an OSX subforum/section-
provided the OSX users (part or full-time ones) contribute regularly with nice articles/guides etc
.

Coz i want to try this OSX thingie for sure- just for curiosity sakes and trying out something different. :)
And it will surely attract a lot more traffic to TE from those seeking help on similar topics, which will present newer queries/challenges and in the process, help n00bs like me grasp the subject more. :)

Just posted what i felt from my heart. :)

I dont use OS X, but it would be a great idea to have a separate thread for this since it would only take a few weeks for people having interest to join and to start posting in this section. Not to mention the number of fanboi's that would participate and increase visibility in google rankings for TE.

A separate Mac OS sub-section in the Operating Systems section would be a great idea, but I do not like the idea of having a separate Apple section.

Why should one specific brand be given a separate section. If people then want a separate Microsoft section, it would contain threads on Operating Systems, Development tools, office tools, System Utilities, Gaming consoles, PMP's games etc and what not. The mess even with Apple products would be considerable with iPods, Macbooks, iMac's Mac OS X, iPhone, Server and NAS products and what not.

btw, for anyone interested in knowing how much the Mac OS market share has grown over the last year,

Operating system market share

Operating system market share

Windows share is down by 3.11% form 91.79% to 88.68% while Mac OS share has increased by about 2.32% form 7.31% to 9.63%.

the solution would be to start a windows subforum. The reason mac threads get buried is that there arent enough posts or the interest generated its trumped by the windows ones. Im making the assumption that you implied windows since you already ruled out linux to the open source section. A subsection to Windows would be warranted due to high post frequency, leaving the Operating system base forum open to OSX and generalized OS posts.
This seems like the better solution to me as well. Common sense dictates consolidating that which is more in number.
