ACT Fibernet upgrades and Extra bonus 2019

Is 150 mbps possible on cat5 cable which comes from fiber box to inside the home?
Depends on what cabling is used in your premises. If it is 4 conductor cable then no - it is limited to 100mbps. If its proper cat5e then yes. You can always ask ACT to replace the cable. They'll do it free of cost.

Yeah friend is on 1999 plan and he didn't change his cabling for 150mbps. Had to get a Gigabit router though!

However, If you go for 1Gbps plan they're changing the wiring to Cat 6.

Some how Bangalore will be the last one to get any good offers. I still dint understand why
Yeah except Hyderabad everyone's getting that 1.5TB extra for 6 months.

--- 3rd world problems.

Look who joined the party with a 300mbps plan.

Well its mostly Cat 5e that is used by ISPs nowadays, so yes, as it supports 1000Mbps up till 100 meters. Although, in my case I had them lay Cat 6 from the ONT to my router. My house too is wired with Cat 6 itself, internally.

Got the ACT promo (100mbps 500gb for around 850 rs with tax and 0 installation). Its speed to non peered servers is just as worse as Hathway (around 10mbps max outside of speedtest). It gives ok speed in video sites like vimeo like Hathway too. I guess the only benefit over hathway is that it does not seem to do the file name resolution peering that Hathway seemed to do and pings are better. http://www.speedtest.net/result/7263785819

However, ACT did end up installing their switch box thingy in my house. Since they said it would consume only little power, i thought it would be an additional plug only but after the drilling and nailing wires, they said they have to connect it directly to the line. I hope it is safe. I guess removing their stuff and repairing broken walls would cost a lot? Nonetheless I've lost trust in ACT. Next time I'll take Airtel or local provider.

A discount of Rs.100 is given on the bill if the switch box is installed in your place. Check with them.

Except it will available for like 10 people in Bangalore. They can't even get 24 Mbps in my apartment.
Apparently its a FTTH plan. Chances are you might get nearly 280mbps+ .. There's a guy on IBF who subscribed to this plan and is getting good speeds.

International speeds are still a concern.

All speed they advertise is only true to their own server.

ACT can’t even sustain decent connection with any T1 server. Their peering sucks with all major T2 & T3 as well. They cap speed per thread below 2mbps.
Due to double NAT, one can’t access FTP in secure mode, one has to use plain-text FTP, which implied ACT sees all your data. also majority of provider don’t accept unencrypted FTP connection. This happened with me and I’m forced to buy a vpn.

If doing speed test, never select act server it’s same like you doing a WAN speedtest. Select a server who peers with Tata lines and not bsnl lines.

Tata is global T1 provider and has excellent peering across globe. Airtel use this but they are are not in mood of competing with any isp, anymore.

BSNL/vsnl sucks donkeys ass, is based on outdated infrastructure. ACT use this cable. ACT is exhausted of IP hence they are double NATing. ACT can never be a reliable provider at any high speed.[DOUBLEPOST=1524901562][/DOUBLEPOST]

No they won’t. Have 150 mbps plan, but hardly seen 80 mbps. And in weekends it’s hover around 30mbps.
I have given up raising tickets. So now downgrading to 50mbps.

.
Static IP Rs 196/month on a yearly payment sucks!!!! Depleting IPV4, Can't blame the ISP.

BSNL/VSNL? I guess you need to upgrade. They're long gone, No one buys Bandwidth From them.

ACT buys from TATA and Airtel and Vodafone. Both TATA and Airtel have Good connectivity to all parts.

I beg to differ, ACT provides better speeds than these Hathway/YOU/(add your local ISP) at all times. I don't know why its so bad your place but Hyderabad users have never faced issues with speeds.

Right now every freaking HIGH FUP providing ISP is using Extreme peering setup advertising 100mbps+ speeds and a TB FUP. https://extremepeering.net/en/

Actually no one has that kind of International bandwidth to support 100mbps+ at all times. So poor Speedtest results to USA/EUROPE!

I tested 150mbps speeds to a USA server using ACT's Dedicated connection and i could easily manage 140-142mbps downloads and 120mbps uploads. So it depends on your spending.

I just don't want to comment in this. i can only say please do a little more research. learn about the type of ISP in India, mostly about licencing and limitation of licencing.

Why end user even pay 100/- extra because they don't want to upgrade their infra ? now they blocking FTP, tomorrow they will block another protocol and blackmail specific group of user users for money.

Also don't compare their infra in HYD with rest of India. it was Beem cable (a company with innovation as motto) and not Atria Convergence Technologies ( what they want is evading tax & make money).

I think problem with me is due to it being routed through vsnl(Tata?). Hathway was also giving connection through them and having similar issue. I have written a mail to nodal officer. I don't know if ACT or Tata is at fault. The thing is in some cases the connection feels slower the Airtel 4G and even MTNL 8mbps (images loading in message boards). If these ISPs are overselling, maybe they should give seperate packages for those who want a good experience.

They told me that. But I don't like how they connect it directly to the line. It seems dangerous but looks like I do it everywhere. Also, I had told them beforehand that I live in a rented flat and might have to terminate the connection. ACT guy didn't tell me clearly at all how much work they'd have to do. The previous installation(Hathway) took around 20min while ACT took 3hrs with 6 people coming.

^I think VSNL is under Tata?

:D :D

ACT is biting way off more than they can chew.
behind every double NAT they are assigning 250+ user in same IP with their poor outdated load balancing hardwares. They haven't upgraded their core hardware post 2009/11, rest you can assume.

please don't argue for the sake of it .

No one calls them "VSNL", its TATA. For the Sake of argument.

I get your point. asking money for Dedicated IP. But if you look at earlier scenario... They used to charge Just 70 for Static IP, Now everyone charges 300% more than what was there 6-7 years back. be it ISP, Web hosting provider Etc.

Can you elaborate on the "Upgrade the infra?" Part? Interesting in learning from the pro's!! :)

You should have stopped the installation when you saw the work being done.

Right. But the installation people had already clipped the wires by then and started removing the switch box by themselves. I should have still stopped it but what can I do now. I guess others should be more alert of this. Surely the ACT representative should have talked in detail about the work involved, I never thought they'd go this far in free installation

Anyway I did mail the nodal authority though it seems they are off on weekends. I hope I can get connection given through another backend, since many in Delhi are getting good connection through ACT. The problem seems to be with Tata.
