Advice for budget gaming PC without monitor (budget 25k)

Err. Thats a worst choice one could make. The i-5 6xx mobos are not the right choice for 99.99% ppl. If Intel is a must would be better to get a Core i- 530 2.93 GHz, 4MB Cache Rs.5700.

The i-5 650 costs Rs.3300 more for a small speed bump and it supports a niche encryption standard IIRC.

Thanks a lot mate. But the 8400 is for 6.2k and not 8.2k.

However yeah as you all say it's older technology. But my only doubt is with 8400 being a 4 core processor would it not be better than the 2 cores of the i3 530? Will the i3 530 be something i could use for many years?

That's expensive :D

The shop i called on Lamington was giving me the Q8400 for 6.2.

Would you recommend i go for the i3 530 over the 8400 despite the latter having 4 cores?

He must have given you a quote of C2D 8400 which is a dual core CPU. so your argument of choosing Intel i3 over C2D 8400 is not reasonable anymore:p

Atleast I would get i3 over Last Generation C2Ds, if budget permits:)

Nono i am very sure it was a Quad core 8400! I asked him specifically! The Q8400. It's quad core for sure :eek:hyeah:

There is something very fishy about that quote, its too low. Be careful:)

Few NP dealers quote best prices for LGA775 CPU. Difference in pricing is huge when compared to places like Mumbai and Chennai(around 10-20%). Dunno how :S

Finally the following configuration has been decided, and budget has been raised to 30k. Just need a quick confirmation from you guys before buying. So guys, how is the this config for a budget of 30k

_____________
Proccy: Phenom X4 - 925, 2.8GHz, 8M, AM3, ~ 6.8k (availability : need to confirm)
Mobo: ASUS 760G M4A78LT-M LE, 16x,V,8 ch S, L,F, DDR3 ~ 4.5k (availability : need to confirm)

[OR]

Proccy: C2Q 8300 2.5 GHz, 4MB, 1333 ~ 6.5k (available at nehru place)
Mobo: Gigabyte G41MT-EE2SL DDR3 ~ 3.1k (availability : need to confirm)

_________________
RAM: 2GB Corsair/GSkill 1333MHz DDRIII RAM ~ 2.9k
HDD: Seagate 1 TB 7200.12 ~ 3.7k
PSU: Gigabyte Superb 500w ~ 2.8k
GPU: MSI HD5770 1GB GDDR5 HAWK edition ~ 9.5k
Cabby : not finalised : 1.5 k

Total : around 30k

- Both AMD and Intel processor + motherboard combos are given above, will choose one of them. Which one is recommended ? Any one of them is drastically better or are both kinda same ?

- Both combos support DDR3 - 1333 ram. It makes sense to get ddr3 ram and a supporting mobo instead of the older ddr2 mobo/ram.

- shops at NP only have HAWK edition of ati 5770 1gb. How much does the normal one cost ? Did a little googling and the hawk one seems like a keeper.

- Can Gigabyte superb 500w sufficiently power a 5770 ?

Would appreciate a quick reply :)

Mobo: ASUS 760G M4A78LT-M LE, 16x,V,8 ch S, L,F, DDR3 ~ 4.5k (availability : need to confirm) --> Dont go for this. Has only 2 DIMM slots and supports only upto 95w CPU
I would suggest,
Proccy: PhenomII X2 - 555BE, 3.2GHz, 6M, AM3 - 4.9k
Mobo: ASUS M4A87TD/USB3-6k or M4A88TD-M EVO/USB3-6.5k (As the name suggests both the mobos have USB3.0, SATA 6Gbps and core unlocker facility. The former lacks IGP)
http://www.smcinternational.in/inde...shop.browse&category_id=31&Itemid=93&TreeId=4

So try to unlock the 555BE to a 955BE. It has pretty high success rate(>80%)

For PSU get a CX400 ~ 2.8k as it is 80+ certified and also has 3yrs warranty.
The VX450 ~ 3.7k gives u more headroom to O.C and for component additions in the future.

^ Thanks :)

Friend wants a straight quad core, he doesn't want to try unlocking.

Will inquire about the availability and pricing of cx400.

How about the intel q8300 config ? Friend is slightly bent towards intel.

If you want straight Quad core, then get AMD Athlon II X4 635 2.9GHz, 2M, AM3 Rs.4900/-.

Q8300 is slower than this CPU and plus its Outdated. go for Q8300 if you are a Intel fanboy. else its bad decision

Is there any specific benefit of choosing Athlon II X4 635 over Phenom X4 - 925.

Your link actually shows that Q8300 performs marginally better and therefore it is placed 16 places above Athlon II X4 635. Am I missing something ?
But anyway, the very tiny performance difference notwithstanding, i'm more interested in the outdated part. Don't want to suggest an outdated processor to my friend.
Both proccys support ddr3 1333 memory, both are 45mn so how is q8300 outdated and X4-635 is not ? Is it because of LGA775 :)

^^Yup. The platform wont be getting any new proccies. Whereas u can choose a 5.5k mobo for AthlonII X4 630 which has SATAIII and USB3.0.

You can swap in a 6-core processor when u fell the need to without changing the mobo :p You can do that in a LGA-775.

The PhenomII X4 is slightly better for gaming due to L3 cache. But then u will exceed budget slighlty.

I would recommend u get a PhenomII X4 945 ~ 6.9-7k. You get a 200MHz speed bump for a small premium(Rs.500)

Gaurish suggested Athlon II X4 635 and it makes sense because it is 2k cheaper than phenom X4 925. Is the cache difference between the two (2MB v/s 8MB) going to make a big difference (say > 10%) gaming wise ?

Name the motherboard my friend !! Is it locally available.

AthlonII X4 630 @ 4.9k and a suitable mobo that supports sataIII, DDR3, USB3 @ 5.5k .......... hmmm... I'm beginning to like this combination already :D

PS : Does this motherboard support overclocking as well ? Friend is not planning to oc right now but would like to have the option.

_______ added later

Do these boards fit the bill ? They supports sataIII, DDR3, USB3 :

- AMD870 ASUS M4A87TD/USB3 16x,8 ch S, L,DDR3............. Rs. 5600

- AMD870 ASUS M4A87TD-EVO 2*16x,8 ch S, L,DDR3........... Rs. 6300

.

Scores:
AMD Athlon II 635 = 3354
Intel Q8300 = 3257

Bigger is better

Don't bother.Save money here and spend it on good GPU. it would balance.

Go into the market and get quotes of available boards with all goodies(USB3,DDR3,Sata3 etc). Then we can advise which one is best among them.

For some reason you are quoting the score of Q8200 in Q8300's place. Intel Q8300 = 3562. Check again ;)
