Two of my dad's colleagues are interested in purchasing a Skoda Laura each. One is in Bangalore and the other in Bombay.

I've tried my best to dissuade them citing everything from bad dealers to high replacement costs for each and every part vs other brands and even shoddy service and the issues one might face in the event of getting a lemon car(well documented at T-BHP). But they still want to take a chance.

So folks who've purchases Skodas, can you please let me know who are the rogue Skoda dealers i.e. ones to avoid when making a purchase and who are the relatively good Skoda dealers to consider in Bangalore and in Bombay.

well.. i really don't understand T-BHP's hatred towards Skoda.. but i have never ever faced absolutely any issues wid my vRs..

^Great maintenance maybe.

My Skoda Laura FL undergoes a horn change every now and then (Service center people dont bother to fit it properly). And the power window motor also became faulty once. Hence, not so nice electricals.

Cosmetics: The side-protection-trip has come out from one end.

Rest all is well. The car is amazing.

PS: My car has done just 18k.

one of the member posted a thread on spurious parts being installed on his skoda after a service (including the all important brakes), he then posted it on team-bhp for discussion also mentioning that the case is in court and the issue subjudice. Skoda saw it and joined as a member only to threaten team-bhp mods. team-bhp took it personally because no one has ever questioned their motive and impartiality. skoda on the other hand kept on with the court case even prima facia it seemed that the dealer had indeed supplied spurious parts. they canceled the dealership after some months but the case was still hanging the last time I saw that thread.

Team-BHP stands for the TRUTH. But Skoda wants to “instigate” Team-BHP and its users! - Team-BHP

then people started posting their experiences with skoda and their pathetic services. so it was like buy skoda at you own risk.

the other main point was the matter was even escalated to their head office in germany but skoda still did not did anything

My mechanic told me that a Rs 75/- bearing costs Rs 2,000/- if you want an original Skoda part. The synthetic oil that the car uses is also very expensive. Basically his recommendation was, if you buy a Skoda, you are buying into a liability that will keep taking money. Don't go for it unless you have the financial power keep spending on it.

I've been told by many that the Laura offers bells and whistles found in mercs and the likes of high end premium cars. Is there anything special that you think is not on offer in other cars?
Well ,

I Hate This Car ,I Got It a Year Back ,One Of the !@#!@# Purchased Done by me in my life
How much does it cost you annually to maintain it?

Hello Amarbir :) Please do share your story with us. What car ? Did they take 2-3 weeks for replacement of parts ? Or did they mislead you on the phone claiming to have something in stock when they never had :P

:P :ohyeah:
leave that guy alone will ya (just kidding)

well he is now talking as a customer and not a dealer (he is on the other(our) side now). ;)

Since the Skodas seem to have high risk of turning out to be money-black-holes, why dont they move up to an Accord or some such other car?

Sorry for the late update to this thread as I've been busy. It now seems that my dad's friends have asked around and are sort of decided against Skoda. They are now considering Civics due to the high costs involved in part replacements from Skoda and the many reported failures in the Laura.

But they still remain desirous of a Skoda as no other auto manufacturer in India gives the kind of equipment level that a Skoda Laura boasts about. Any suggestions to the contrary?

I had suggested an Accord but they want to drive the car and they feel that an Accord is not really a driver's car.
Basically, they want a bit of luxury after purchasing a high end car. But when it comes to Honda, their concern is that there is nothing really high end with Honda in terms of equipment and interiors.

Can you suggest some other brand or non CBU car that rivals the Laura? How does the Corolla rata against the Civic?

@sydras...

Civic against Corolla is a fight of hearts IMO. Both are just excellent cars. But if one have to choose i would say it has to be Toyota.

But yea look wise civic is a no brainer. Corolla is sort of Mid 40's. If that makes sense.

and if i remember correct Toyota maintenance is "cheaper". Coz service wise both are just fantastic, just the way owners want. Atleast in my city they are.

Personal experience with Honda and Heard from others about Toyota.

New civic is expected in 2011 and i think honda will also sort out the crappy suspension in the present civic which bottoms out even with 3 people onboard on speedbreakers, so its better if you wait for the the all new civic. You can also have a look at corolla or cruze. cruze comes with a lot of features like engine start/stop button, sunroof etc. but cruze has only one diesel engine option which is quite powerful at 150bhp.

@Desecrator, m-jeri, RS4....thanks for your inputs guys. Just heard that they are also considering the Corolla and Cruze as well.
