This is pretty much a common issue in Every city.

I stay in Hyderabad and wiring on the poles has been big issue in the city and I personally got hurt Twice due to them. Recently the local municipality has Decided to Go tough on this and is making arrangements to Dig and lay Internet and cable wires Underground and collect 1 Lakh per kilometre from the companies.

Please mention your city and tell me if your City municipality or Current board authority allow Over head wiring?

Out of Curiousity. I heard Bangalore and Mumbai Municipalities act tough? true?

Here in Mumbai, Vitamin M is all you need. Maybe in the posh areas like Mantralaya etc, they wont allow, but in suburbs, nada.

I hate it when the cable guys lay cables over our terraces without permission.
<

I give them a warning and 2 days for setting things right. If they don't, I take a hack saw and go chop, chop, chop!

Nowadays, they have stopped meddling with my airspace!

I am presently staying in Madhapur , hyd and though its all aerial wiring in here ( Beam etc) surprisingly its very neat , they tie up the wiring pretty good in here and not at all looks bad in my place.

My dad runs the local cable network, we have no other option but to run the wires aerially. Digging cost cannot be borne by us, customers will never bear the cost.

We do pay a charge for using MSEDCL poles tho, even then those idiots cut our wires

Most of the overhead wiring in Delhi is now underground. And since DTH, we don't see many of cable TV cables now so all good.

#[member='deep16'], Yeah the wiring is pretty tidy there cos earlier Ghmc did cut all the wires badly.

#[member='djmykey'] You dad must be paying 50-60bucks per pole per annum. Thats cheaper for the Lco's or internet companies to provide their services but due to number of increasing internet companies i see a bunch of wires hanging.

I think municipality should cut down the wires and keep the city clean. If the wiring is underground its much safer for Isp's. For example Airtel, bsnl which offers good uptime due to underground Wiring. Though plans suck big time. So i feel every one should be asked to use Common duct and a reasonable pricing 40k-50k should be asked per kM.

#[member='vivek.krishnan'] Vitamin M has been in full force for a quite long time. But the ire from public and local corporator making it a issue made Municipality take up the issue.

True.

The terrace in my areas have been screaming 'Spiderman Was Here' since some time now.

The cable guys will come and lay those cables in a haphazard manner. Anybody can trip over them. Feel like cutting and put them coiled up nicely with a tag- dont do it next time else u wont find the cables at all.

^^ What I do is make 2 cuts on a cable such that one section of the cable comes off and remains with me. I keep this piece with myself.

The reason behind doing that is if I just make one cut, the lamers come and rejoin the cable. If I cut away a section, they have only 1 option: Lay a new cable.

And since they already know the consequences of laying a cable in my airspace, they do not bother me again.

I cannot help but do this. Ours is a small self owned bunglow plot and we have a huge number of plants on the terrace many being aged Adeniums and Cycads that cost a bomb. These cables mess up our plants big time. I once lost a 6 year Adenium due to these idiots... It was cut into half!

Hello mates, please mention and let me know if your current board or municipality allows aerial wiring?

.. I mean mention your city too.

Mine is Mumbai and BMC allows anything as long as you are paying them enough bribes!

bribe is such an ugly word, use 'Vitamin M' OR some better reference

I think your idea needs to be implemented.

Also, previously due to rivalry between cable operators, some buildings would find that their connections had been snapped!

to OT : But I think its time to clear the airspace. Wires looks ultra ugly. My neighboring building cuts the wire if not properly routed thru the sides of the buidling. Me and my neighbour both lost net connectivity due to the same.

yeah dude. Typical pole wiring and we loose internet if the wires cuts down. I have very bad experiences with the aerial wiring of beam telecom in fact lost connectivity whenever the heavy winds or rains occur .

Generally you would have a pole every two to three houses/apartments. What they should do is pull the wire from the underground near that pole and pull directly in to the customer's place like Airtel. Small companies or Local cable would have problem unless the price is less for them.

We cannot stop aerial wiring here in India. However, those donkeys can ensure that all the wiring between buildings is properly buched and put.

oh no i did not mean to abolish the aerial wiring. We have aerial wiring in every country, they allot a separate pole for that only. I asked my cousin to send pics of wiring in his city near dallas. I was suprised to see that.

As long it is tidy and causes no problem its okay.

Well I don't think digging is allowed in Pune. I stay in an area where people move around a lot and most of the houses do not even have a concrete slab. Add to that the PCNDTA PITA, who is trying to remove all the unauthorized houses and build malls and parks all over.

What you guys suggest is very good and will help beautifying the city. I do agree. But the city municipality has to have some kind of a plan as to how to maintain the city. With buildings springing all over the place digging and laying cables is gonna be one heck of a pain. In short what I mean is there should be city planning in place. All the amenities should be provisioned for every house.

In my own society (of 200 houses), we have a road that goes right down the middle. As soon as a new layer of tarmac is laid, some one or the other digs it up for laying a water pipe.

How irritating is that

I live in Kolhapur. Aerial cables are there but are very neat. There are no aerial cables in my Area (Except those, who have TV Cable). Most of my neighborhoods have DTH. Only aerial cable remains is the electricity connection. Rest is very clean indeed

My areas has worst wiring. You see hanging wires on the side of roads,it may even hang you if heavy winds come.
<

There are almost 12-13Isp's in my area who operate and a local Lco so its pretty much messed up.

Actually no one (even those cringing about Aerial cables) would like to bear the changes for getting the cables laid underground. Every one wants to cut the cables that run over their houses, but bad mouth when they loose their internet connectivity because their own cable was cut elsewhere. In many cities digging for laying underground cables is not allowed even if the operator is ready to do it.

^^ I have no issue with aerial wiring on my roof top as long as the operator takes prior permission and then arranges the cables in a proper manner.

A few hooks, clips and nails is all he is gonna need in any case. But these idiots just want to throw their cables at us like they are bloody spiderman clones!

And I hate Spiderman...
