Hi pl,

I am getting a rig for my cousin :hap5: (for details: http://www.techenclave.com/forums/basic-rig-with-19-viewsonic-ohyeah-94679.html )
Now as per Itwares pricing info:

AMD 3600+ = 2850 while the 4000+ = 3500

The point is, this rig is never gonna be OC'ed. But also, its only going to be used for movies/surfing and stuff...nothing remotely intensive...

So does it make any sense to get the 4000+ by spending even 650 Rs extra if its 99% never gonna make any difference?

Me currently leaning towards the 3600+. :ohyeah:

Suggestions/comments welcome :D

yup. good choice . for normal apps, its better off to invest in RAM :), if you want it to be more responsive

PS: i dont see the need for a seperate thread for this . we could have continued the discussion there :)

Hmmm, well I'd say go for the 4000+ if the rig isn't gonna be OC'd

Few reasons I can think of in my half sleepy state

1. 4000+ performance is close to E4300 performance @ stock speeds

2. 4000+ doesnt remain much of a bottleneck for a high end card say a 8800GTS 320MB.

3. Price difference isn't too much.

4. If your cuz watched HD movies and/or encodes video stuff, some extra horse power always comes in handy.

5. One can never have enough juice :P

meh, 650 wont be enough for you to get 2GB either :(

maybe you should spend it on those inspire 2.1's i was talking to you about :D

I don't know what diff the AM2 4000 has vs the socket 939 4000 but at a difference of Rs 650/- go for the 4000.

Rs 650/- will not seem important as time passes and you enjoy your new rig. It also won't fetch you much in terms of RAM.

And as Deepak said, it makes a difference in video encoding and H.264 playback could sure use some extra processing power.

@greenhorn: Created new thread as that was PC peripherals section so thought to open this in CPU section :)

Already thinking of going for the creative inspire only. :D

Please note:

1. No gaming at all. So no thinking about any 8800GTS 320MB. :P

2. No encoding at all :)

3. No HD too ...

Now what do you say?

I am currently going for 1Gb RAM as the system will only be used for lightweight stuff (Refer to link in the first post). Probably 512Mb X 2 for dual channel support. Since the jetway has 4 slots.....can always upgrade another 1Gb in another yr..wotsay? Or if the budget remains will add in another Gb of RAM. That will be priority at the end.

200 Mhz diff will make so much diff or what

And the 4000+ has 256 KB more L2 cache per core ... which will definitely be a good performance boost over the 3600+ ... and both stays cool , and consumes really low power :D ..

if u are not that much into multimedia then u better stick to 3600+ and invest the money in something else which will be useful.

Same amount of cache on 3600+ and 4000+ Brisbane ... I don't think 200mhz would make a lot of difference, you could go with anyone :)

How does that make sense? The saving in buying the 3000+ will not be enough to buy the 22"

Now theres a good point :D

Me getting the most basic rig i can get in terms of processing power which will still last a while ;) So going for dual core :d

get a 3000+ and 22" screen if all you do is watch movies

There are hardly any 3000+ in the market, it makes totally no sense to go for a single core, given the 3600+ is only 2750. Even if he saves on the processor, it wont fetch enough money to get a 22" over a 19" ;)

I would always recommend that you go for the fastest machine that you can afford, which in this case would be the 4000+. Granted, you will not see much difference today, but who knows what kind of applications you would be running in 2 years time?

err....since its for my 36 yr old cousin and his two very very young kids....its not going to be used for anything intensive even in 2 years ;) So getting teh 3600+ keeping in mind that it will ONLY be used for Internet/chat/movies/music fr at least 4 years :D After that he can scrap it for all i care :)
