After what time is too much sound considered public nuisance?

I meant is it days, weeks, months ?

Does this person have a valid reason to be upset.

Yeah, I think this something the OP hasn't mentioned.

IT won't help if you are gonna pick a fight with your neighbour even before you are shifting there.

Doesn't that relationship go both ways :P

Hammering/Manual Sawing would be about 80-85dBA and drops by roughly 5dBA the first metre, a bit less every further one (at around 10m the drop should be roughly 20dBA). An obstruction like a closed glass window should drop another 5dBA.

If I were you, I'd stop work around 7-8 pm max and also no work between 1-3pm. I have done this in my place twice (once in an apartment and once on an independent plot for my brother).

The housing society at both places would have some rules about it. Follow it. Trust me, it's a pain to hear the loud noises or the continuous hammering after one comes back home from the office. In the afternoon, most of the housewives and elders have a habit of taking a siesta. Give them some time and avoid noise during that period. What I used to do is a simple thing. Let the carpenters know that these are restricted times and they can only do silent jobs - there are many jobs they can do without the hammer and the electric saw.

@ Party Monger..........you should ask the Carpenter to push in more man power so that more work can be finished in the allowed hours.

These people work on their own terms generally, its generally the best, number of men:work needed to be done, so that they can get some profit..;)

I couldn't agree more. This is the best way out. Respect others sensitivities. And as famously said ' There is no smoke without fire', so try to understand what they are saying ;)........best of luck........

Ok, thanks for the replies guys, for me, this guys has reached his limit, no one else has any problem, there's an apartment of 5floors just behind our plot, and even these guys have no problem whatsoever. Went to meet their secretary today morning and he simply said , what you do in your plot is none of our concern, just be a little considerate and was happy when i told him there will be no work after 9 pm..So i guess from today i'l have to spend a few evening there to sort out any problems..

Yet to read the links :ashamed:

So carpentry went on for less than a week.

What about before ?

We have a very incomplete picture here actually and am getting the impression that it has been going on for very much longer.

I had a neighbour who put up a building next to me. Dump trucks used to come in at 4AM and unload, this went on for many days. Until one fine day we called the cops and sorted it out.

The person was from out of state and thought we owed him a living. Then we got a lawyer to threaten him with a stay order and he's been very co-operative ever since :)

Now this was not a very smart move from someone moving into a new area as all his neighbours hate his guts.

We started work in December, there was no noise related work till a week ago..Before that guys were working 11 to 6 cause his daughters exams were going on..They ended in april and the contractor continued the same timing till now..

Hehe, you have an incomplete picture cause the motive of the thread was not advice on a irritating neighbor :P

For your curiosity will PM you the detail in the evening:P

Ok, then i would agree with your sentiments about your neighbour. It appears you have been reasonable here :)

So question still remains as to what is the best time for the noise to stop ?

If its an independent plot you have slightly more leverage.

Finishing at 6pm would be ideal but maybe 8pm is more realistic for your purposes. Going to 10pm i think would be too much.

Not necessary. I did not mean to pry.
