Airtel implements caps on Unlimited plans.

If AIRTEL forces this then a mass boycott is the only solution.... We get pathetic speed in the name of Broadband.... In developed countries where this policy is into force they have speeds above 5Mbps as broadband @ affordable rates while in India TRAI denotes 256kbps & above as broadband....

So this policy is totally farce... I will boycott AIRTEL to all ends if they did this in my circle....

Lets hope other ISP sees this as business opportunity & do not put this stupid clause in their Terms & conditions... I will defiantly move to other ISP's... There were some network problems with AIRTEL in my circle & most of my friends & relatives moved to TATA... Only a few along with me are on AIRTEL but is making sure I leave as well. I will make sure they know why me & others are scrapping AIRTEL... :@ :@

.... and this was in today's newspaper :P

edit : seems to be the wrong one :P

edit 2 : its correct :P . this was Bharti's response :

Q 3.3

Any other suggestion to improve quality of internet / Broadband access to end users?

Bharti’s Response:

1. The regulator should enable the following:

a. Local Loop unbundling for enhancing the broadband access penetration

b. Easy access to ROW for accelerating the access network growth

2. Internet across the world is a best effort based services as the whole network is managed

by various Carriers / ISPs / ASPs and datacenters. The network itself is highly unpredictable

and is influenced by various events, usages, existing performance levels and failures across

the world. However analyzing it closely Internet means connecting the user to the content

and vice versa. The quality of services depends on transferring IP packets with predictable

network availability and quality parameters. To make the network more predictable and to

bring sanity, it is as mandatory to bring the content closer to the user as much as possible.

3. A joint effort by the regulator and various/content providers is required for localizing the

content within the country. The same can be facilitated by moving to higher level of

Internet exchange on domestic level and datacenters in the country. The traffic between

the service providers within the country should get switched with in the country and should

not loop back through international route and other transit provider. More and more

datacenters should be built up in the country which should facilitate the co-location of

most popular content with in the country and even to regional levels.

4. Also the service providers should be free to implement fair usage policy and restrict the

few bandwidth huggers’

bandwidth huggers ?

Bharti was the only provider which suggested a fair usage policy

Just now called up Airtel CC in Chennai

256 - if 20 GB exceeded download speed limited to 128kbps
384 - if 25 GB exceeded download speed limited to 256kbps
512 - if 40 GB exceeded download speed limited to 256kbps
1 Mbps - if 50GB exceeded download speed limited to 512kbps

50GB...will cross in no time..

and btw its limitation is download + upload.

Its called UL but still a cap... ooh less speed what an idea....

technically one can sue...

A person paid for xxKbps UL.... The company committed to it.If the company is not giving it then they will be sued. If this was elsewhere it be murder.

The broadband plans on Airtel website has unlimited plans on 256 / 386kbps only (* Speed subject to Airtel Fair Usage policy).....no more new unlimited connections in 512kbps / 1mbps evenwith the so called Fair Usage policy

This is funny - 8 Mbps connection @Rs. 2999 with 15GB data transfer limit.

Hats off to you airtel.

lol.. lol.. this is brilliant stuff from Airtel. They'r are gonna loose all those customers they had gained coz of thier awesome plans.

More like the customers they gained due to their good service, and customer care.

I'm on 448kbps, so does that mean these limitations doesn't apply to me :P In any case, I'm going to look out for alternatives. Tataindicom Photon is really tempting!

what utter bullcrap! boycott airtel! im so glad im still on bsnl.. hahahaha

EDIT: this applies for all isp's ..... i take my words back....

BOYCOTT TRAI!

My plan changes in last 1.5 years

Bsnl Home 500 --> Bsnl Home 750 --> Reliance 300 kbps ---> Reliance 600 kbps ---> BSNL Home 1350 ---> Airtel 1mbps .....next ----------> Move to a different country :P (Suggestions needed for countries with no internet restriction and simple immigration laws )

Sure, boycott Airtel! Do you really think they care two hoots abt you?

As with everything else in this idiotic nation, you will shut up and learn to adjust.

I never had problems with airtel in past 6months... but the situation is worsened because of trai... airtel must follow this rule.

BTW, i think this applicable to all other isp's.... bsnl, hathway, tata, reliance, etc !!!

I haven't received any personal notification from airtel yet !
