Airtel Prepaid Unlimited 5G question.

Who has seen that with Airtel so far?
Not sure about that white background icon, but I've been to couple of villages, where airtel's 5g easily crosses 200 speed when we do speedtest.
Next time when I visit them I will have to see how long that speed stays when downloading.

Why do you use their app if its buggy? I guess the recharge part works just fine. Typical...
Airtel Axis cc. Any recharges or bill payments done on their app, we get 10% or 25% cb depending on category.
Have to be quick with the recharge part, otherwise crashes just before transaction completed page comes up.

See if the 5G icon in the status has a solid white background? That is your only proof without using specialised apps.

And those speeds are possible with 4G too because of lower demand.

Should work using the website if you enter your card details. I don't see why it would be tied to using the app only.

@Hachune you're on an iPhone too. Does the airtel app crash for you as well?

Nope. They explicitly mention "via Airtel Thanks app only".

Regarding OP's question, I think I found the answer to this on twitter search..

As per this twitter reply by Airtel team, if I understand correctly, once daily data limit is exhausted, you won't get unlimited 5g for that day.
You always need to have 4g data balance, and correct 5g signal to get unlimited 5g data, assuming they don't have anymore t&c's for that again.
Does it clarify @Hachune ?

Quite difficult to avail of this offer unless your signal is good and your walls are thin. And best if there is only one wall separating you and outside.

The OP needs a tracking app that will log these transitions between 4&5G.

Since he is on an iPhone i have no clue.

But you can get an idea with the android app below

What is the iPhone equivalent for this app?

I remember I had to claim some Unlimited 5G offer/coupon on the App before I started getting Unlimited 5G. I had to do this sometime in the last year. It was free, there was a 'Claim Unlimited 5G' banner on Airtel App and that was it. Before claiming it, I was not getting Unlimited 5G.

I recharge from Airtel website (not App) and I get the 5G offer. My wired internet was down this morning and I had to download 10-12 GBs of files and I used unlimited 5G. My plan is 2GB per day with unlimited calling, 84 days.

The 5G icon has to be solid or else it would count against your data. (Non-solid 5G is kinda 4G with something extra, don't know exactly).

I'm sure that you don't need to have 4G data remaining to use Unlimited 5G, unless something has changed very recently. I was travelling in August and had to download something, I wasn't paying attention to solid 5G / hollow 5G icon. The signal switched to hollow 5G in between and 100% of my daily data got consumed in few minutes. The speeds dropped down to few kB/s (FUP limit) but as soon as solid 5G came, the internet became super fast again. Again hollow 5G -> crawling speeds. This was in August. I can test it tonight though.

So we do have real 5G on the country then.

:woot:

Don't know if that app can do 5G as yet. Try it.

So all these "hollow" and "solid" 5g icons are related to android only right?
Yeah, I think specific to Samsung. Not sure.

All other devices should have some similar icons/status/information in settings etc.

I didn't get you.

Yeah, I think I will give Unlimited 5G a try tonight after exhausting my daily 2GB limit.

What happens if you enforce "NR only" from Android overrides? (Can enable it on samsung by creating a shortcut on nova launcher/quick shortcut maker to the following activity). I am using Jio so can't verify if it works on Airtel, but at least on Jio if I need 5g and phone keeps switching between 4g/5g, this works.

This works on Airtel too but for it to work, the 5G signal should be good.

I access that Android Radio Settings using NetMonster app. This app is very similar to the one linked above by blr_p.

Apparantly there's a similar setting for iPhones -

  • 5G Auto: enables Smart Data mode. When 5G speeds don’t provide a noticeably better experience, your iPhone will switch to LTE automatically, saving battery life.
  • 5G On: always uses 5G network when it’s available. This may reduce battery life.

iPhone users, can you confirm?

PS: The source is linked above.

Yes I understand that. I specifically recharged with 2GB per day since I know that 1.5GB plans are not valid for 5g offer.

To the second point. It's kinda weird because in my experience, the daily data limit has always been consumed first, I then usually had to turn off and on mobile data in order to use the rest "free" 5g. That plus, in my house, 5g signal has full bar 90% like of the time and one less bar 10% of the time. Why would it consume 4g data I wonder.

But yes I understand what you're trying to say. What they say is the one making less sense.

You will have to log this info. So you can prove it stayed on 5G. It's doing something you don't expect. Or the CC is lying.

If you have a good 5G signal then you should be ideally placed to test this plan. The tower must be within viewing distance from your home.

So I keep reading the posts here and what kind of making sense is the fake 5g (improved 4g) thing. I noticed that my internet speed has significantly dropped since the last few days from usual 300-400 mbps to less than 100.

But my phone doesn't seem to have different 5g symbols unlike you guys so I can't confirm it.

Look in the app store. Apple makes a big deal of saying usable with any 5G network in the world and first to do so.

I am using android bro.
So i downloaded some network info app and it's showing LTE (wtf?) despite saying 5g at the top with full signal bar. *Facepalm*

Seems like you guys were right about this. It's probably the fake 5G. Ugh.

There should be a drop-down below, try selecting "NR Only" from it

The app might not be 5G compliant. Check for that
