Airtel takes on JioFiber with new Xstream bundle broadband plans starting at Rs 499

I got Airtel Xtreme fiber a few weeks ago. The sales guy promised fiber, and came to install ADSL. Fiber is present near me in 1 building away. After few days of suspense(busy phones etc), got fiber installed. The Airtel roter range is ok but for some reason (seems like a bug) the router gives 5-6mbps to my old D-link router(after it gave it 15-20 for a few days) and gives 1-2mbps to a lenovo k3 note while it gives 30-40mpbs on same 2.4ghz to a Moto, though all three have 802.11n and D-link and Lenovo work fine by itself. I don't even know what to say of this bug, should I ask them if they're traffic shaping. They seem to control the whole router from their end which is very suspicious. Its partially locked and they change things like wifi channel from their end.
So kind got my D-Link wasted in this connection

Airtel showing they are giving OTT and and then putting it behind 150rs NCF and STB deposit(which only can be refunded after 1 year) is very shoddy

Another weird thing is few sites not working on XStream which work on their 4G service. One of them is a quite obscure non-porn hobby foreign site which only have some nsfw content. Wonder how Airtel ended up blocking it. I even tried with Firefox and its DNS but no change. Kind of makes me worried for privacy. I don't want to put more money on a VPN though

just lodge a complaint. they will replace the router if its the problem source , only after confirmation by engineer

Their router is a cheap one, replacing it won't help. I disabled their router wifi, connected another router next to it using lan cable and using that wifi.

All good now including the range.

Best suggestion is, buy a good reliable Mimo supported dual band router and disable the wifi access points from the Airtel provided modem, connect the Router from the modem via lan cable.. and everything will work well

I have done the same.

Hi... Could you please suggest any suitable dual band router with MIMO support? I will be trying to do the same when I get a new connection.

Last month a friend wanted a cheap-ish router and got the TP-Link Archer C6 for 2.5k. He bought it from flipkart because it was currently OOS on amazon. He's pretty happy with it. I haven't used it myself but recommended it based on the specs and reviews. Note, the A6 seems like the same but it seems to be an amazon specific sku and the firmware is slightly different so it's not as easily moddable as the c6 which is far more prevalent.

Are yours NOKIA G-2425G-B too? Its range is about equal to my old D-link 615 on 2.4ghz, basically ok for beyond 2 rooms. Don't know how good or bad that is. Anyway I ended up installing LAN cable to router from my room since I didn't want to spend more. Airtel guy didnt help saying he doesn't have the tools though

Net is fine. Was facing very occational cuts in a video streaming service I use that I didn't see in the 4G net till now. Can be issue with that site itself. There did seemed to be lag in opening some pages very few, like 1 in 100 times. Tough to tell

just fyi airtel has been facing worse pings than jio for the past month, i was thinking about getting the xstream this month but no so sure anymore

I am getting some very occasional timeouts and packet loss. For eg tested with amazon.in after it was not loading fast, and found 10% packet loss. But usually even in long time testing, very few packets are lost. All tested on router itself. Tested on the local Airtel server that comes in tracert, and though it has not shown packet loss till now, max gets to triple digits. Ping to router is stable. I should contact Airtel, it seems it will be a pain to deal though

I'm paying 800 for 50Mbps in Hyderabad...

Can a Hyderabadi Airtel broadband user tell me how the speeds and latency are?

Is it always 40Mbps or they don't deliver promised speeds?

Thanks in advance!

I have airtel adsl (vfiber?) connection already and currently on 799 plan (100Mbps) and app also mentions that I'm eligible for xstream box. Now question is my current line is from telephone cable and recently they have installed fiber lines in my building so will they shift to me to that or i have ask them to shift me to fiber? Or I will get fiber line only if I opt for airtel xstream box.

They will shift automatically, however no harm in asking, that will expedite the process

Telephone line can go max 30 to 40Mbps and can never reach 100 !!

Xstream box is not free exactly. 1500 refundable deposit + monthly subscription charges apply

Agree if I want to buy their dth i.e. TV setup box. What if I want only the fiber internet without tv?
Anyways I have got update from them that they are still working on fixing the lines and will setup stall in society complex by month end. So lets see how it goes.
