Unless they improve the quality of transmission upscaling won't help any bit.
Reliance had the best picture quality compared to other DTH,some of the channels in airtel are highly compressed.

still it will be better than current sd channels

^^I am guessing that in lower series / cheaper LCDs which may have inferior upscaling capability, those users may actually feel the difference.

In reliance people saw no difference. One can see a difference if the tv used as a crappy upscaler.
yea its possible and as we all know its a news trend if one is doing so rest all operators are following. End of the day none of these operators have much to offer so this is what all they are giving lol

All put up these so called features to throw away the local cable operator.
The reason why the prices of cable tv is still in check.

yea but homes with 2 or 3 tv still find local cable operator cheaper because secondly connection is either free or been charged as low as rs 50

^^Correct. I have normal cable at my home in Mumbai and 2 TVs and we have done internal wiring in such a way that there is a cable connection in each room. Also i feel the upscaling capability of my TV is good enough and i am fully satisfied with my cable connection while watching on a 46 incher. All this for 135 Rupees a month :P That is what cable wala charges when paid for entire year.

^^No No. No HD at all. I dont even have any set-top box at home. Mine is incablenet. PQ is more crappy using the box.

I was using cable at home, for which the quality sucked, even after so many complaints never I got all the channels clear and good quality.

At last I ditched the cable and took Airtel, touchwood, I never ever had any problems except activation of automatic multiroom option when I got the second STB. I called CC, and Also twitter helpline and it was solved amicably. The PQ is superb and whole family is enjoying the view.

Now I am excited to see this news, which will enhance the experience more on HDTV.

@rakrules, are you sure? Being happy with cable on 46 incher? If you really are, then probably its not a FHD.
It is very much a full HD (SONY BRAVIA KLV-46Z550A )and i am satisfied and i had already mentioned this right the day i had got my TV. You can check in that thread which dates back to Jan 2010.
Btw i mentioned that i am satisfied and that means that from my perspective the PQ is good and may not be the same with others. Also i cannot compare the PQ with tata sky HD channels but for our daily viewing it is very good.

Isn't that cable with STB? There is a difference between regular cable connection and one with a STB, the picture is far sharper on the latter.

The scenario is...

The cable is with STB but we dont use it (no one in my building uses it). It is kind of optional. The PQ is worse with STB and without STB it is better. I know it may be hard to believe but that is the fact. The STB is lying in some corner of storage section of my house. :P
