'Aliens: Colonial Marines' is title of Gearbox, Sega FPS

Not much more than a name to go with previous confirmation that Brothers in Arms creator Gearbox is developing an Alien FPS for Sega, as Game Informer announces "Aliens: Colonial Marines" as the cover story in it's new issue. The brief teaser copy confirms that the game will be squad-based, ostensibly following some of the development cues from Gearbox's previous projects. The title alludes to the second film, Aliens, and perhaps specifically to the 'United States Colonial Marines' who accompany Ripley when she returns to LV-426. It's unclear what, if any connection the game will have to that film or others within the series.

Why am I surprised! No one seemed to have posted anything regarding Colonial Marines? After a brief period, Gearbox has finally come up with a new trailer for the E3:

The game has been announced for almost all the platforms - Windows, PS3, X360, Wii U and the 3DS.

Here's a short preview: Aliens: Colonial Marines Preview for Xbox 360 - VideoGamer.com

*OT* His last visit was Today morning! But his last post was on "17 Dec 10", that's a long time back! *OT*

^Aman haven't you seen the movies from Alien franchise? If not begin in this order:

Alien (1979) - IMDb

Aliens (1986) - IMDb

Alien 3 (1992) - IMDb

Alien : Resurrection (1997) - IMDb

At least the first 2 movies from Ridley Scott and James Cameron are worth a watch for the special fx and the storyline. The first one is more like Event Horizon - subtle horror yet gripping. The last two miserably fails at delivering and takes undue turns from the actual plot.

PS: Die-hard fan of the Alien, Predator and AVP franchises. :P

Also, the game has been pushed from it's Spring release to Autumn this year.

Aliens: Colonial Marines has been delayed from Spring this year, to Autumn. The darker months of late 2012 will better suit the co-op shooter, which was announced several millennia ago, shortly after the birth of the universe.

SEGA explain the delay over on Edge, saying that the process of making a game about shooting aliens in the face is “a process of creativity and invention” that doesn’t “necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line.”

“We don’t want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print.” they add. “We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.”

I really hope the game stands up to all the hype it has been creating for a while now. The previous AvP title was a disaster in terms of arousing fear in the player. And the lousy combat system. The first two titles (AvP, AvP 2) were really classy and was a testimony to the cult franchise. An HD remastered version would have been really nice. Or even something like Deus Ex HDTP.

Gearbox has 3 titles slated for launch this year including this one - Borderlands 2 and BIA: F4. Almost all the titles have a huge fan following. They'd better not disappoint us.

What scares me is that with all the delay, they better not pull a "Duke Nuke 'Em" on us. From the early footage that has been shown, it looks awesome. Frame rates were a concern though, but I guess it's not fully built yet. 4 player co-op is another incentive. I enjoyed the last AvP title, though many still loathe it. We need additional gore and kick-ass arsenal.

What's so special about this game?

It appears you still haven't watched any movies from the Aliens franchise despite my recommendation. Please watch Alien and Aliens, the first 2 movies from the series which were directed by Ridley Scott and James Cameron respectively. You'll love them for the SFX and storyline. And the fact that the lead role is played by a lady who has had a cult following later on. Both the titles also won Oscars.

ALIENS!!!

And Predators!

Awesome!

The third and fourth titles suck so don't bother with them. Prometheus, the apparent prologue to Alien is out this June 8th, directed by Ridley Scott himself. So watch out!

PS: Sorry for the OT.
