Adept
Hi Techies, please suggest me a multifunction printer:
Printer + Scanner + Copier + Fax(not necessary)

Companies - HP, Cannon, Epson

Budget < 8k (budget printer)

Im not sure whether I should go in for Fax option or not because with fax, scanning becomes difficult but if its a flatbed, then its ik.
Thanks
Teche

how the hp 925 or hp 735 AIO is?
my dealer says it has cheapest cartidges ?

Thanks, yes cheap printing is essential, otherwise printing costs far outweigh the cheap printer cost in no time!

If you can manage to get the HP 915 it is better. The 735 is a replacement for the 915. The cartridges used in the 915 cost just over Rs. 400/- for black and colour.

BTW the 915 also costs around Rs. 7000/-

i got the price quote of 7100 for HP 735
and the cartidge for same is 800/- both coloured and B&W
which is cheapest in the market

Thanks Vikrant, I saw a multifunction printer today, I guess model no. was 4288 or 4268, price quoted was ~3.5k

Thanks Emil, isn't the new replacement usually better than the one it replaces!

That would be the F4288. I wouldn't recommend it. It is HP's budget model but it uses the HP818 series cartridges. These cost around the same as the HP21/22 but have not encountered much success in refilling. Your running cost will be pushed up.
If you are looking for an AIO in that price range, better look for the older models F2120, F2235 or F4185. They all use the HP21/22 which are a refiller's dream.
As I have mentioned elsewhere, also consider the brother DP165C at around Rs 4000/- because it uses passive ink tanks. This means two things:
1. Chances of spoiling the head during refill are removed.
2. Chances of getting cheap, 3rd party cartridges like I used to get with my old Canon IP1000 which used the passive BCI 24 cartridges.

Better for whom?
These decisions are all commercial and help HP to profit more. They sell budget printers and make money on the cartridges. On the more expensive printers they make money selling the printer and sell the cartridges with lower margins. Now they go from 915 to F735 in order to make money on the printer and also make some on the cartridges.
I belive if your print volume is about 100 pages a month or thereabouts it makes no sense going for the 7k range AIOs. Go for the cheaper older models using HP21/22. I bought the F2120 a week or two ago because I wanted a black one but you could also go for the 2235 or 4185 which are white/off-white.
If you have higher volume need, go for the 915.

Thanks a lot Emil, yes its HP 4288.
F2235 is retailing for ~3500/-
I have no knowledge about Brother, etc, have just heard their names!
Yes, you are right, its for increasing profits & on cheap printers, cartriges give them revenue!

My printing would be limited maybe ~ 20-30 pages a month.
Which makes most sense for this type of printing? Prices would be welcome alongwith models!

Best in both segments:

AIOs with Fax:

Canon PIXMA MX318 ~ In & Around 8K

HP Officejet J4580 ~ In & Around 8K

AIOs without Fax:

Canon PIXMA MP486 ~ In & Around 8K

HP Deskjet Ink Advantage F700 ~ In & Around 8K

HP 915 ~ 7K

canon mx-308 for around 5-5.5k

its all inone with fax

has a flatbed scanner

canon mx-318 is almost same but it just has a 30 page ADF ( Automatic document feeder) and a bit higher scanning mode.

otherwise canon mx-308 for around 5k is very good for ur needs for printing 20-30 p/m

if u dont need fax then canon mp-149/150 is the model. i dont remember exactly

Thanks Toxic, are the AIO's with fax flatbed printers?

What about AIO's in cheaper range, 3-4k?
Thanks Mohit, how much do the Cannon cartridges cost, are they expensive like HP?

yes the AIO's without fax r indeed in cheaper ranger 3.5-4k.

check canon mp-149/150 .

and yes these r all flatbed scanners.

i have a canon mx-308.

using it for past more than 6 months. refilled 3-4 times still not bought a new cartridge.

i think the black is around 900 and the coloured is for 1100.

it may seem to be bit expensive than hp but canon cartridges have more volume 18 ml as compared to hp- 6ml

Thanks Mohit, yes its Cannon MP145.

MX308 seems good, but cartridges are expensive. Im concerned because my usage is going to be very limited & I've heard that ink dries down if not used frequently!

Also, do these AIO's with Fax, come with a phone too?

so at last i have to choose frm these to printers

HP officejet j4580 &

hp f735

so help me choosing as j4580 have costle cartidges but it has fax???

had same requirements as urs...

ended up gettin canon .....

verdict:

avoid canon at all cost.... sucks the blooooody ink man..

and takes too much space :(

go for any HP model

I'd suggest you stick to a particular budget...
So what's it gonna be ? Upto 4K or 8K?

The ones I've mentioned have flat-bed scanners...
You can confirm the same from their websites.
