Sony NEX cameras have officially been launched with a price tag of NEX3 MRP 29.9k with the 18-55mm lens and the NEX-5 costs 34.9k. E-mount Camera (NEX) : Interchangeable Lens Camera : Sony India
Which is around 2k to 3k more then the US MSRP price.

Also launched where the Sony entry level A290 priced at MRP 24.9k and A390 DSLR(tilt screen and quick live view) priced at MRP 28.9k both come with a 14.2MP CCD sensor and 18-55mm kit lens.

I tried out the A55.. very, very uncomfortable to use if you're used to a standard SLR. all the menus settings are 2-3 levels deep. It's easy to use as a P&S, but if you keep changing ISO/WB etc, there are better cameras out there.

If you have got a new camera with bill. Canon will send across a pretty hand bag. You can upgrade to better camera bags, once you start acquiring more lens etc...

@TechHead - Where did you try out the A55 ??? I am planning to buy that cam soon.

Also what do you mean that ISO is hidden away in so many menus ? It has a 4 way controller where you can change the ISO, WB, Drive and display options. So it does have a dedicated button for both ISO and WB.

In any case I never use anything other than auto WB in my shots. It can be corrected at any time thanks to RAW. :)

@ragzdiablo

If you are looking for a good UV filter, our own TE dealer mediahome has put up nice deals on Hoya filters, select your size and order, prices are attractive too. :D

Ya, i got that bag after registering...but its too big to carry around everyday.. :)

^will do so...

i had a query, the 18-55 lens i got with the camera has very little zoom and i was planning to get a good zoom camera..

how is 55-250mm? the canon one is for 12k..any other you recommend..?

and i wanted to know more about the 50mm prime f1.8 lens..ive heard its great for shooting portraits..but i guess it has no zoom..

so isnt that an issue..?

I would suggest you get both the 55-250mm IS lens and the 50mm f1.8 lens.

The thing is zoom is not everything. Most good photographers do not use zoom lenses and work strictly with prime lenses.

The main reason why people use prime lenses is because of the large aperture. Even the > $2000 zoom lenses have a max aperture of f2.8 without exception. However even the $100 Canon 50mm f1.8 lens has a much larger aperture.

Another reason people use prime lenses is because of bokeh. While expensive zoom lenses give pretty good bokeh (out of focus areas) they cannot compete with any good prime lens.

You are still new to photography but I can tell you once you learn how to effectively use the 50mm lens you will forget about using your zoom lenses. :)

Even though I am no pro, I use 3 prime lenses 90% of the time and zoom lenses just 10% of the time.

Hello Guys ,

I have been longing to get my self a DSLR and I'd seen an ad in todays newspaper (b'lore)

Canon 1000D + 18-55 kit

5 Ft Tripod

6GiB Memory card

All inclusive cost - 24k - is this a good deal and a good cam ?

Question is what sorta pics are you gonna take. As usually I just use the standard zoom focal range only, and as Brendon said, if you want a fast cheap lens, then 50mm F1.8 is the only choice...

My good old Panasonic Lumix LZ8 has gone kaput and want to get new one.

I am eyeing a DSLR. But, my budget is max 17k and lowest I can get is for 22.5k(Canon 1000D).

I have been searching for 2nd hand camera, but not luck( Searching on jjmehta too).

How much it will cost me, to get 1000D from gray market?(Want to get from gray, as I can't extend my budget, I have already poured in all my savings.)

I am from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. How to buy from gray market?

(I guess, we can talk about gray market, as I see no restriction about it in forum rules)

Looking to buy a DSLR within the next couple of months. Need advice from the shutterbugs here to make a shortlist.

1. Looking to spend around 35 to 40K tops, all inclusive.

2. Am very much interested in portraits, portraits, portraits :P and macro photography.

3. Pretty much a noob, having handled DSLRs only a few times courtesy of a friend.

Based on these requirements, please suggest me a good DSLR along with the choice of lens. For no particular reason, I have a liking towards Nikon D3100. How are the Sony A3xx cams? Also, should I consider the 4/3 format cams?
