Amazon India - Feedback Thread

I know that this is an "Amazon India" thread but I just had a very nasty experience with Amazon Canada that I want to post here. A couple of days ago, I ordered a product from them (a Blu-ray player) for $260.

The products store page clearly stated it includes a "Free 6 feet HDMI Cable".

Product was delivered yesterday. Cable was missing. Amazon says they cant do anything as the order was from a 3rd party market place seller.

This is utter rubbish as the order was "Amazon Fulfilled". Therefore the item is stocked at Amazon's warehouse and shipped by Amazon. The seller has nothing to do with it. Furthermore, I paid Amazon for the product not the seller. Their argument is absurd IMO.

If placing an "Amazon Fulfilled" order is no guarantee of safety in a country like Canada, then what can one expect from Amazon India I wonder...?[DOUBLEPOST=1424938044][/DOUBLEPOST]Just to update - Recd. an email from Amazon this morning in which they apologized for the issue and offered a whopping $50 off the price of the product or a full refund.

Luckily, neither was required as I contacted the seller and they agreed to ship the missing HDMI cable. :)

I ordered Zenfone 5 Screen Guard and Back cover but Amazon delivered me defective items so I returned them on the spot itself while opening the boxes when delivery boy came and thus I was saved.

They have blacklisted Gati from my future orders. So I think its good riddance.
How did you get it done? I have written so many mails against GATI and its failure to deliver the orders resulting in inordinate delays has put me in wit's end. All I get from them is false assurances about how sorry they are and how they are doing everything to sort out the issues blah..blah. Is there any phone through which I can talk to them (CS) people? How do I escalate the issue.

I jumped from Flipkart to Amazon mainly because of the CS problems and now this with Amazon too!!!

I sent a couple of mails to Amazon. Plus I called their CC after I had to travel 20+ km to get my package. they said that they won't send my future orders via Gati but I haven't ordered anything since so I don't know if they'll stick to their promise.

Talked to CS today, after e-mailing my predicament re. banning GATI from delivering my orders. He clearly said that as of now there is no provision of choosing couriers of customer's preference and they cannot guarantee that GATI can be banned only for me. Now I have sent an e-mail suggestion that they should inform the courier name before despatching the order so that customer can modify the courier or cancel the order. Because of GATI's arrogance I just cancelled two orders, which had been lying with GATI for last 18 days and they had been insisting to collect the item from their office as they cannot find the address

Ordered a PC DVD game via Amazon. Item was sold by "Cloudtail" (a company that is partly owned by Amazon) & order was "Amazon Fulfilled".

Box arrived with DVD missing.

Called up Amazon, they "suggested" their courier boy may have taken out the DVD. Its highly unlikely that happened as the DVD was shrink wrapped when I opened it. They offered a refund.

Next time I will make it a point to open packages and check items in the presence of the courier as apparently even Amazon/Cloudtail (FK/WSRetail equivalent) cant be trusted to deliver what they promise. Extremely disappointing...

They are refunding your money that is good right? I never had any problem with Amazon ever(and hope best for the future too). Recently, they had an offer of 8 Energiser Alkaline batteries for Rs.90 from seller 'Tigerdirect' which they own too. But the package I received had only 4 batteries, they refunded my money immediately without even asking for a proof. So, that 4 batteries are totally free.

Compared to that I have lost a few thousand from PAYTM and more than 35k stuck in the wallet. I think Amazon and Flipkart are best for customer care in the country. Flipkart offers compensation for their mistakes and in cases of unfulfillment but have other issues. Snapdeal though have replaced my faulty orders twice but are tough to deal with. Hence, I rank Amazon #1 in India. Amazon and Flipkart does have problems with third party sellers but that is inevitable.

If you read my earlier posts in this as well as other Amazon related threads, you will see I was a "die hard" Amazon supporter having used Amazon US/UK/CA since 1996-97. That's a LONG time by any standard.

I still have 100% faith in Amazon US/UK/CA but not so much in Amazon.in.

IMO, it takes ages to build buyer confidence and very little to lose it.

Regarding my earlier post, Amazon.in did offer a "refund" but as I had paid via COD, their "refund" involves sending me a physical cheque which I have to then carry to a bank and deposit it there which is a PITA.

Since the order was "Amazon fulfilled" & the seller was "Cloudtail", I requested Amazon to have the "empty box" collected and send a replacement item but apparently this is asking for too much.

Instead they insist that I place another order for the item and pay for it again and the cheque for the earlier item will be sent separately.

While some people might find this policy "acceptable" I personally think its really annoying and less than ideal.

End result? I told them to keep the money and wont trust Amazon/Cloudtail anymore.

If I ever buy from them again, I will make sure to open the box in front of the delivery guy and check all items are present.

That's all I was advising other TE users to do. The rest is up to you guys....

Yes, it is irritating that they don't give a replacement, but that is because of the system of marketplace where they are supposed to keep away from direct sales.

In my case they transferred electronically.

Thing is, Flipkart (WS Retail seller) has no issues with sending customers a "replacement" item without having them re-purchase it. I had contacted FK for a replacement item and not WSR who was the seller. Yet FK sent me a replacement and collected the damaged item at delivery. I did not have to pay for it again.

In contrast, subsequent to my raising the issue with Amazon, Cloudtail contacted me with the following email -

Hi,
Greetings from Cloudtail India Private Limited. Cloudtail India is FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) seller. Fulfilled by Amazon indicates that products are stored, packed and dispatched by Amazon.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We do not do direct exchanges.
We understand that you wish to return your order. To do so, please visit the following link to return your order.

They "do not direct exchanges" and Amazon refuses to do replacements themselves. Ergo, both Amazon and Cloudtail refused a replacement and only offered a refund.

If FK/WSR can offer replacement items without repurchase then why not Amazon/Cloudtail? Doesn't FK/WSR also work on the same "marketplace" model as Amazon/Cloudtail?

IMO it just goes to show that in this case, FK policy on the issue is more "customer friendly" and helpful than Amazon's is.

In my case they transferred electronically.

Did you happen to pay for the item in advance using Netbanking/CC etc?

If so that might explain why you were refunded electronically.

I was told that COD orders are only refunded via cheque payment...

Do they allow us to open the courier before receipt? Many times they dont accept.

I have had good experience with Amazon. In the recent summer sale had ordered a surge protector. When i received it packing dint look new and the wire looked burnt. Spoke with CC and they offered a refund. They dont do replacements. But if i had to reorder it costed 300 bucks more. Mentioned this to the CC and they gave me a gift card for the difference so that i can place a fresh order. Anyday i would trust Amazon that other e-tailers. Atleast i can get a resolution.

Yes, I had paid in advance. There was no COD option due to location.

Normally couriers do not allow the opening of the box. If something is amiss and the customer returns, the courier guy can be blamed.

What I meant was, pay the courier, ask him to wait while verifying the contents in his presence. If contents are missing/damaged, inform the courier of the same, note his name down as well and then contact customer care.

See this amusing case with FK where a guy got so fed up he made a video recording of the delivery process - and just as well -

So to sum up...it was the seller's fault and you were wrong?
