I have opened one up. It was 256 GB and did not have DRAM.
any suggestion for a M.2 in 2TB . ( kind of clueless in Dram and stuff) . Looking to use in a M.2 SSD Enclosure and later maybe shift into a laptop . or might just end up with SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD .

@vaibhavyagnik @Kevin Lane if possible, could you post a screenshot of crystaldiskinfo or Speccy showing the specs of the EVM SSD?

Unfortunately I did not take photos. It was about a year before so even I was unfamiliar with EVM and hence I opened one of the few 256GB SSD that we had received.

SLC>TLC>QLC. More DRAM is better. These are the two facts that you need to remember. Samsung 980 Pro, Crucial P1, WD Black SN750 and WD blue SN550 are all good NVME drives

How do we determine that without specs being mentioned ? The only option us someone buys and investigates.
I guess I read it somewhere. Maybe not a direct reference, but that speeds drop significantly after an initial burst does suggest the controller lacks dram.

Same price on FK as well for today. Another couple of good options from FK...

P.S. Advantage of other chargers is they come with cable unlike Samsung one.

Crucial P1 is poor NVMe ssd to buy because it pulled the infamous "bait & switch" tactic soon after it got good reviews. Similar SN550 is to be avoided now & instead go with SN570 as there are reports of SN550 also pulling this "switch hardware" tactic somewhere in late 2021.

Using M.2 NVMe ssd in any closed enclosure will generate a lot of heat during anything read write intensive resulting in thermal throttling. Sandisk extreme portable has a good thermal performing enclosure just like samsung T1 & this is where the extra cost pays.

Whether an SSD has DRAM or not is not that difficult to determine on M.2 drives. The DRAM chip is easy to identify.
With DRAM:

Without DRAM:

As you can see, the smaller horizontally laid chip is missing in the second one. That's the DRAM chip.

However, most SSDs come with a sticker covering this part. It is not trivial to find a picture of the SSD with the sticker removed, especially for less popular SSDs. But if you have one in your possession, then you can try checking.

I don't know about TLC and QLC, but most SSD specs mention it if they are using TLC. So be skeptical about the once that don't mention anything. Samsung QVO uses QLC, so does Kingston NV1 (at least, most of them). There are hardly any consumer grade SLC SSDs, so you can just forget about that. If you find one, it will be way too expensive to actually buy.

Regarding the utility of DRAM, unless you routinely transfer large files to and fro your SSD, you're not going to notice any difference. Keep in mind that for the speed limit to be hit, both your source and target need to be equally fast. So even if you routinely transfer 500 GB files from an external HDD to your SSD, you're never going to hit the limit as the HDD will bottleneck it. So the proportion of people who'll actually be affected by the lack of DRAM are minuscule.

You are right about not noticing difference while copying to/from hdd but there are some situations in which lack of dram will be obvious. One is during windows/OS system/folder scan where having a large no. of files & folders will result in lot of random 4k read/write & IOPS & this routinely happens on win 10/11 while using defender. Second is, while downloading large files using download manager or extracting large size archives where read & write happens on same drive. Second situation might not be so frequent with typical usage but first situation is something many will notice even with typical usage & as windows updates/security level grows this situation is only going to happen more with passing time.
How does it fare with wd 750..
Like a turtle with a rabbit with this being turtle.
