How do we determine that without specs being mentioned ? The only option us someone buys and investigates.EVM is Dramless. Performance takes a hit once the drive gets full or transferring large volumes of data.
Hence I gave it a miss.
I have opened one up. It was 256 GB and did not have DRAM.How do we determine that without specs being mentioned ? The only option us someone buys and investigates.
Did you take any photos of the nand chips that were on the ssd? Would help if we knew if they were QLC nand or TLC.I have opened one up. It was 256 GB and did not have DRAM.
any suggestion for a M.2 in 2TB . ( kind of clueless in Dram and stuff) . Looking to use in a M.2 SSD Enclosure and later maybe shift into a laptop . or might just end up with SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD .I have opened one up. It was 256 GB and did not have DRAM.
@vaibhavyagnik @Kevin Lane if possible, could you post a screenshot of crystaldiskinfo or Speccy showing the specs of the EVM SSD?
SLC>TLC>QLC. More DRAM is better. These are the two facts that you need to remember. Samsung 980 Pro, Crucial P1, WD Black SN750 and WD blue SN550 are all good NVME drivesany suggestion for a M.2 in 2TB . ( kind of clueless in Dram and stuff) . I guess I read it somewhere. Maybe not a direct reference, but that speeds drop significantly after an initial burst does suggest the controller lacks dram. How do we determine that without specs being mentioned ? The only option us someone buys and investigates.
Same price on FK as well for today. Another couple of good options from FK...Deal of the day: Samsung 25W USB Travel Adapter for Cellular Phones - White https://amzn.eu/d/dfkUOxJ
999 Rs
Crucial P1 is poor NVMe ssd to buy because it pulled the infamous "bait & switch" tactic soon after it got good reviews. Similar SN550 is to be avoided now & instead go with SN570 as there are reports of SN550 also pulling this "switch hardware" tactic somewhere in late 2021.Samsung 980 Pro, Crucial P1, WD Black SN750 and WD blue SN550 are all good NVME drives
Using M.2 NVMe ssd in any closed enclosure will generate a lot of heat during anything read write intensive resulting in thermal throttling. Sandisk extreme portable has a good thermal performing enclosure just like samsung T1 & this is where the extra cost pays.any suggestion for a M.2 in 2TB . ( kind of clueless in Dram and stuff) . Looking to use in a M.2 SSD Enclosure and later maybe shift into a laptop . or might just end up with SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable SSD .
Whether an SSD has DRAM or not is not that difficult to determine on M.2 drives. The DRAM chip is easy to identify. How do we determine that without specs being mentioned ? The only option us someone buys and investigates.
How does it fare with wd 750..Deal of the day: Kingston NV1-E 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Up to 2100 MB/s SNVSE/1000G https://amzn.eu/d/ehb9u4G is this a good deal for 5400 for 1tb
You are right about not noticing difference while copying to/from hdd but there are some situations in which lack of dram will be obvious. One is during windows/OS system/folder scan where having a large no. of files & folders will result in lot of random 4k read/write & IOPS & this routinely happens on win 10/11 while using defender. Second is, while downloading large files using download manager or extracting large size archives where read & write happens on same drive. Second situation might not be so frequent with typical usage but first situation is something many will notice even with typical usage & as windows updates/security level grows this situation is only going to happen more with passing time.Regarding the utility of DRAM, unless you routinely transfer large files to and fro your SSD, you're not going to notice any difference.
Like a turtle with a rabbit with this being turtle. How does it fare with wd 750..
The best dram less/budget NVMe ssd along with samsung 980.How about this one: WD SN570, I am looking for SSD boot drive in general purpose system.
