Graphic Cards AMD Catalyst & nVidia Forceware driver updates

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

I do the same thing you mentioned and didn't face any problem. Actually, only the catalyst manager has an entry in the registry not the driver.

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

@Desecrator: Catalyst Install Manager does good job at removing the driver completely from system. In my personal experience I didn't find Driver Sweeper is required at all. So since past few driver versions, I'm uninstalling using Catalyst Install Manager, restart and install new drivers.

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

Desecrator:

Driver Sweeper is fine to use. It creates a back up of all entries it deletes. Would suggest the following:

1. Remove all ATI entries from 'Uninstall Manager'.

2. Run CCleaner Registry Cleaner.

3. Create a restore point.

4. Reboot to save mode.

5. Run Driver Sweeper, and remove all ATI remnants and residual crumbs.

6. Reboot to normal windows and install the Catalyst flavor of choice.

7. Restart.

8. Verify driver version via GPU-Z and Hardware devices utility in Windows.

Link to Driver Sweeper is here.

EDIT:

Well just saw iGo's post. Yes there are different schools of thought here. I used to follow your method. Yesterday I removed 10.3 from my system, and restarted -- without any new ATI driver installation. Ideally now, they system should be using default Win7 VGA drivers. Well it was not, it was still pointing to 10.3 (which had been removed). So I used the method I have highlighted. Win7 is supposed to overlay new installations perfect. I prefer Driver Sweeper to be 100% sure. At least from now on.

I prefer asignh's method to found several times that win 7 was using the same driver after a normal uninstall and started using Driver sweeper after .. which restored it a complete default vga driver. Then i do a clean installation.

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

^ Very surprising... I never faced such issue. In fact, I wanted to see if the Driver Sweeper is really needed. So I uninstalled it once using Catalyst Install Manager and restarted in safe mode. I checked the files in usual places, ATi folders in program files and user document folders, checked the registry. I think there was only one entry in registry, but it was for CCC not the driver itself. Also, the only folder that was left in user documents folder was of my custom profiles which I had made.

After login into normal mode, Win7 was reverted back to standard vga drivers. so I didn't see the need to use Driver Sweeper anymore. :)

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

Yes, this happens at times. I have encountered many users: some reported what Kolguy and I have documented, and many state what Igo is saying. Both are correct...! Also here is a useful tip to remain in control while doing driver installations.

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

^^

Well the 10.4 beta and the 10.5 beta are floating around. But most of the reviews are read, post them as buggy. Will post links, when stable builds are encountered.

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

@Neojjjk: Yes... every month. The driver versions are based on year and month. So 10.4 means year 2010 and month 4... and so on.

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

after long time now i must keep a watch on this thread....got myself Gigabyte HD5770-1GB....lets see how stable drivers are there from ATI....my last and only ATI card was x1800XT and damn it was so hot ....then enjoyed Nvidia....lets see this ATI card now.....worried about drivers...

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

^^^ I didn't try 10.4 preview driver...

but the 10.3 whql driver is stable :cool2:

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

The 10.xy series is mostly benefiting the HD5xxx series. In a couple of weeks, ATI will be releasing a build with changes incorporated for HD4xxx series too. I personally did not find much change with drivers released in 2010. Still working on 9.12.

Hope it comes soon.

Over riding seems to work. Check and verify from GPU-Z which driver the accelerator/system is utilizing. You can also DL the Dx11 from M$'s site, and overlay the current installation. If you face driver realization issues, you can use the uninstall+Driver Sweeper protocol.

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

***************************************

The official 10.4a preview ATI Radeon VGA drivers are up. Here is the link.

It is ALSO optimized for BC2 -- HD4xxx cards. (About time). Most reports are good, and stable.

Re: Recently released ATi Catalyst & nVidia Forceware drivers

Ok, I ran the 10.4a preview drivers. They are good.

1. BC2 loads much quicker.
2. Quicker map load time.
3. White flickering is gone.
4. FOV error corrected.
5. STABLE WITH CROSSFIRE. Finally I can game non-stop with no crash, and cross fire enabled, for BC2.

Differences can be seen below.

Driver Field
