Dayummmn, the x120e PWNS everything else in this category as of now.

Hell, even the YB series with backlit keyboards is highly interesting. (if only for my pledge never to buy a VAIO)

Battery life looks horrible.

Wasnt fusion was about to expect 5 hours.

Fusion based lappy are having 5hours+ battery life. The HP Dm1Z managed some around 6hours battery in the engadget review.

Than whats wrong with the one which supra posted?

I am seriously looking to grab one machine soon.

Anyone using emachines laptop?Delta has listed the emachine core i3 lappy for 23k, i was thinking how could this be so cheap?Any cheap quality parts being used??

I need to buy a netbook for my brother. I had to buy it in the range of 25-30K. Does it make sense for me to wait for the AMD Fusion netbooks or is there anything better available in the market now?

Also, is the Lenovo X120e the best netbook in the Fusion platform?

Yes definitely worth waiting for Fusion. Nothing better than Fusion available in the netbook market for now at least. You cant really say the Lenovo X120e is the best, its definitely a good laptop though. The hp dm1 has a nice design too, so does the Sony fusion netbook (YB series i think). Have a look at them in person if you can and then decide

I personally found the Lenovo X120e to be a bit bland and dull in terms of looks. The HP one looks nice. Just waiting for them. Any idea when these would be available and the expected price bracket in which these would possibly be available?

Sony's Y series is available for 26k. I hope its there in croma--will check it out tomorrow.

The HP has been shipping in the US since early Feb but no news of the indian launch. I would expect it to launch by March at the very latest. Also expect some designs from MSI, Acer, etc. Price will probably be ~25-26k for the top end models. Maybe sub 20k for the entry level configs

^^I think I will go have a look at the Sony Y series then. I hope they are priced right. Please post the prices that you guys get for them if you do visit any stores. Thanks.

EDIT: I can't see any Vaio Y with the Fusion platform on Sony's Indian website. :S

^^ MRP is 26990....usually max u can extract on Sony products is 6-8% discount on that !

Lol its available for sure :P....sony website will be updated in a week or so....check deltapage laptop price list also...in SP Road they are quoting arnd 25.8~26k

Config : AMD Dual-Core E-350 (1.6 GHz),320 GB, 2 GB DDR3 SD RAM,AMD Radeon HD 6310 Graphics , BT, CAM, 11.6"

(WXGA:1366 x 768) LED,Windows 7 Starter 32-bit, 4 Hrs,1.46 Kg,HDMI Out, Gigabit Ethernet, 1 Yr Intl

Supra do you know the exact model number? I can't see any Vaio Y with the Fusion platform on their Indian website. And from what I know Sony always changes model numbers country wise even if the specs are the same.

I just got back from Vijay Sales. They have the Sony Vaio for Rs.26,990.

My impressions on the Sony Vaio:-

[1] Windows Experience Index Score - for CPU - 3.7

[2] Excellent build quality. The body is made of hard plastic and there are no creaks when pressure is applied to the chassis. There is no flex as well. The hinges are really strong and don't wobble. 9/10 for build quality.

[3] Its an extremely stylish laptop and comes in silver, pink and green. The silver looks the best.

[4] Glossy screen with extremely good clarity. I thought 11.6 inches would be miniscule when compared to my 14 inch MSi laptop. But everything was legible and crisp. Very good viewing angles as well.10/10 to the display.

[5] The trackpad is good and responsive.

[6] Extremely light weight and slim.

I took a pen drive along with me with software and audio/video clips to check out the performance.

Performance:-

[1] The laptop was configured with 2 Gb DDR3 ram and a 320Gb hdd. Windows 7 Starter comes pre loaded with the laptop.

[2] I opened 4 Microsoft internet explorer windows which started up instantaneously.

[3] I installed VLC player 1.1.5 and ran a 720p episode of Top Gear(x264 mkv format) from the pen drive. It played properly with no lag. At the same time I launched a couple of mp3 files from my pendrive and ran them on Windows Media Player. There was no lag and all the operations were instantaneous.

[4] Angry birds played properly.

[5] I ran a 1080p clip (wmv format) with absolutely no lag and skipping. I also played both the 1080p wmv clip and the 720p top gear video simultaneously with no lag.

[6] This laptop can multitask properly.

The Sony brochure says the battery will offer 4 hours of battery life. There seems to be a higher capacity battery as well in the brochure.

any idea how many cell batt it is? Also is it 4hrs on 50% load or something like that? If its 4 hrs on full load then its great :)

well the sony brochure said 4 hours - i am guessing its a 3 cell battery. there's a higher capacity 6 cell battery in the brochure as well. I however would wait for the Thinkpad X120e till it shows up on March 8th. Its worth the extra money I think.
