Graphic Cards AMD HD7XXX Discussion Thread

^^ Long time in the coming and they will release in the reverse order of things from High-end --> mid range and finally low-end offerings till then AMD will have solidified its base of sales and nVidia will be hard pressed to genuinely deliver something as radical as AMD has unleashed with the R7000 series of graphics cards.

Let the best manufacturer win.

AMD Radeon HD 7800 is soon to get released and like before the specs are already exposed before the release date that is also not far off.

It is in March that this graphics chip from the Sunnyvale, California-based company is set to be unleashed upon the world, as part of the Radeon HD 7800 series of video controllers.

Two boards will be available (or three, if one counts the distinct memory options), at least at first: Radeon HD 7870 and Radeon HD 7850.

On the former, the GPU will work at full power, with 22 Graphics CoreNext Compute Units (GCN CUs) and, thus, 1,408 stream processors.

The list of features goes on with 88 TMUs, 24 ROPs (de-linked from the memory bus) and a clock speed of 950 MHz.

I doubt you should expect much. Expect a 7870 to compete anywhere from an oced 6950 to an oced 6970 at most, and will probably cost around $250-300 easily.

If AMD has its way which it probably will, expect the 7870 around $300-350 and 7850 around $225-250+. and the 7850 will at best compare with a 6950, definitely not much better after the recent 7770 cards.

However, if these cards are as overclockable as the 7900 series, then they will probably be worth it even for that price because you will get an additional 15-30% just by overclocking which would mean +1 generation for the cost of the same generation

As I said.

7870 for $300

Expect it to nearly equal a 6970 stock approx

7850 $250 expect it to compare to a 6950

So if you have a 6900 series card, you need to spend at least $450+

Based on amd's new pricing and the latest 7970 price trend in india, expect approx prices like these

7950 and 30k

7870 nearly. 20k

7850 near 15k

7770 7-9k approx at least

So for 20k you will get a card which compares to a 6970 but isn't an upgrade for 6900 series owners and isn't comparable to a gtx 580 or anything of the sort
<

The 1.5 7890 will come close to a gtx 580, at least faster than a 6970 for around 20-25k or so

Prices can be give or take 5-15% extra but expect on these lines

Not india's mistake, 7870 is $300 multiplied by even 60 which is rather optimistic right now it means 18k, so 20k is more conservative as a budget.

Also, I don't think it would beat a 6970 by anything noticeable if at all, in fact, it would be at best slightly faster than a highly Oced 2gb 6950 for about 5k more. So a worthless product.

^^ The HD 7850 is looking mighty tempting on the charts, lets hope it comes this way at a respectable price.

Then just might buy it to replace my HD 5770, some time ~September -- October. And will not need to sport a new SMPS, viva le AMD!!
