CPU/Mobo AMD Phenom II X2 550 : transforms to Quad Core

@ Sabby

When you enable ACC in the BIOS, there's a percentage with it. This percentage is the error tolerance that ACC gives the cores. A value if 2-4% generally brings the supposedly dead cores to life, but some stubborn cores require higher ACC %ages. The chances of unlocking the extra cores are bleak, since you haven't been able to do it yet, but if you're bored and willing to risk the annoying job of clearing the BIOS again, crank up the ACC percentage and give it a shot :)

Doesn't the % error tolerance actually mean the defect in the extra core ? Lower percentages mean it is good condition. I am just speculating here.

@Sabby Even I have the same Biostar 128M mobo. When I try enabling ACC I get the same problem of blank screen with resetting bios as the only option to recover.
Though I was not able to make it work but there is a Configuration option in bios.
It says nothing in manual or anywhere but it gives 8 options just saying Configuration 1 -8. Try differrent setting at differrent stock speeds. It effects your overclocks as well as ACC settings. In my case I was ble to make my 720BE work on 3.3 Hhz with 220 * 15 on stock HSF, at configuration 4. It was failing otherwise.

Just give it a try ;)

@Ankurh1,

Didn't quite get you... Are you trying to say that using diff configuration, I might be able to unlock all the 4 cores or you are advising me to try it to increase stability and/or speed for OC ?

Well, just 15 mins ago, I found a fact. I was busy trying a last shot to convert my X2 550 to a X4 one. I loaded the appropriate BIOS (i.e. jan'09). Then changed the ACC to auto. As usual, there wasn't any display after the restart. But when I manually restarted again, it went upto the OS choice menu. But neither VISTA nor XP was loaded. Trying safe mode in VISTA, after loading some drivers, the display went off. Again I pressed the restart button and went to the BIOS. There under the CPU option, I found the CPU name to be Phenom II X4 B50. :cool2: That means every 550 converts into B50 but somehow they don't work right. I will definitely try some tweaks. May be some driver(s) causing this..don't know. People who have 550 are requested to look into this and try something.
