CPU/Mobo AMD Phenom II X2 550 : transforms to Quad Core

hey i had a query .... are all Am2+ n Am3 mobos r capable of unlocking the 3rd n 4th core
or there r just a few selected mobos with this capability ???? if ans is the latter one then
can we have a list of such mobos ???
TIA :D

@G33kgod

No mobo can guarantee to unlock the 3rd and 4th core.. depend on the processor first and if the processor is really unlockable. And even if the processor is unlockable one, you will need a Mobo consisting 790GX or 790FX chipset ( these have SB750 ) because only in SB750 you can find the Advanced Clock Calibration feature activating which you might end up unlocking the extra cores or will result in no POST ( i.e. no boot ). I am having the second one :(

^^can u plz post a pic of the HSF of 550BE?...just curious :)

Some say for PII BE CPUs the new heatpipe based HSF are provided outside India, is dat true?

btw 3.6Ghz without increase in vCore sounds gud!!

Its coming only for Quad core BE !

Any way the HSF is damn stupid if u ask me ! the upcoming BE processor donot comes with the HSF !

Now a days INTEL HSF is small & really not good making temp 60 & above

@j1n M@tt,

Right now I don't have a digi cam. Will try to upload though whenever possible, may be when I install an after market cooler and remove the stock. And I didn't even increase the unlocked mult ( its @15.5 by default ). Normally, at default 3.1Ghz and medium load, the CPU temp is around 29-30 C.

Man Phenom II X4 too has low temps, with ambient 25C, the core maxes at 38C. SO Lower temps with 2 cores active was expected.
Where which processor ??

I use AMD phenom 2 940

Idle is 45
LOAD is 52

Core temp is 65 max on LOAD
I dont think no one here has Core temp of 38 for Phenom 2 940 !!

Temps are variable .. It depends on various factors..

1. Ambient Temps..

2. Cooling inside the case.

3. Better airflow | management and better thermal paste will help reduce temps.

X4 PII can easily run under 35 if you have decent room and cooling with clean and good setup./.

i am not taking about review , the user who use the proccy said that 45 is idle ,,

may be DARK STAR is right the room temp & cold area are key to keep the proccy @ low temp , but i really wish to know that any one using 940 proccy about their temp

Well, here is my question.

I am going to order 3 AMD Phenom XII 550BE. (So hopefully one will unlock all 4 cores and if lucky all will unlock ).

So I need a good mobo combo for it. I am probably going to buy BIOSTAR TA790GX A3. Any suggestions.

doesnt AMD sell 4 core processor as 3 and 2 cores
as they have minor problems in locked core?
may be some of this problems are very hard to occur in real life or may be AMD does it thinking there is a risk

......

so is it safe to use unlock cores which manufacture locked and sold to u at a cut price?

@Sabby,

Thanks for the info. If you still want to unlock the four cores, try cranking up the ACC. the %age that you see with ACC is the error tolerance. If you're really interested, try cranking that up, might bring the locked cores to life. Of course, if it fails, you'll have the unenviable task of resetting the BIOS.

@others,

There's no issue per se with unlocking the fourth (or third) core, most of the time these cores fail TDP (power) budgets, rather than being defective.

Biostar boards are good, I've got the 790G 128M myself, running nicely, without a hitch :)

What did you mean by cranking ACC ? Plz explain.

with ambient of 30 and less than 70% humidity, u can expect good temps. Oh, and a properly cooler cabby is a big factor too.
