Should i go for 754 socs ..

Are the 754 mobos with pci-e like K8N4-E delux or K8Neo3 available in INDIA ?

if i go for 754 with agp then , there is thrice degradation like
1. dual channel
2. loosing pci-e gfx slot
3. all the 754 sockets have sata with 150GBps not the 300GBps.

other option is going for 939 ati radeon chipset mobo but they have only inbuilt gfx ones .

and dont i need UPS esp. in NOIDA the power shutdown is frequent ... will it not
affect the system ??

Hey dont go in for s754 now as s939 is coming. The s754 athlon 64 is about to eol(end of life).so thinking of future upgradability s939 best!!
Also the socket 939 has sata2( 300 gbps-only nf4 ultra) but for utilising that u ned a sata 2 hdd which is under development.
Yes the Ati Rs480 s939 chipset is very good but heard it dont have voltage mods for ocing. But the onboard graphics makes it preferable & economical if u dun oc

@hari: Welcome to TA :)
Senfunn has decided to go in for a Socket 939 rig. Also Socket 754 offers tremendous value for money, despite not being future proof (but then again, what is future proof? ;) ).
Its a pity the MSI RS480 board does not support OC-ing (perhaps a BIOS update?) , cause the sample ATI RS480 board was an amazing OC'er and primarily targetted at that segment.
Still the 3Gbps of SATA-II is over-rated as Hard-disks are physically yet to reach the 1.5Gbps limit! Its the other added features like improved hot-swapping, NCQ etc that are what makes SATA-II interesting.

@Aces:
NCQ is only a portion of the SATA-II spec. There are many other factors like the 3Gbit/sec etc. So while a board/Hard-disk may support NCQ its not necessarily SATA-II.
Else all the Hard disks would be advertised as SATA-II disks, but instead just say NCQ. Intel ICH-6 is a good example, they are clearly not labelled SATA-II yet support NCQ.
Saying that, yes NCQ disks are very much available

@Hari, if you aren't a OC'er, you can go for ASrock k8combo mb's, they cost around 4.5-5k, and support both 754 and 939. So you can get tremendous value for money offered by today's s754 and get the future upgradability of 939

I wouldn't suggest an asrock mobo even to my enemy :p. Most of them are utter nightmares to work with. There's tonnes of better stuff available there. An MSI radeon xpress board is way way better albeit slightly more expensive. Also the skt 939 cpus are not much more expensive than the 754 counterparts... maybe 700-800 bucks.

True an Asrock offers great value for money, but the old saying holds true - you get what you pay for. A component as crucial as your motherboard should never be compromised.

Most people dont prefer the Ali/ULi chipset that the Asrock K8Combo-Z board uses, they'd rather go in for atleast a Via and preferably the nforce3/nforce4 chipset.

I am using this board. Its pretty good. Great value for money. I think its the cheapest 939 on AGP.

He said that NP you dont get a good branded SMPS .. !?!?!?

The RAM prices have again gone up ... and its seems the orginal transcend RAMs never became
cheaper ...

:thanks!: :thanks!: :thanks!: :thanks!: :thanks!: guys !!

Bought the PC . But didnt do much things yesterday it got late .

Guys tell me one thing .. these warranties that the componenets hold depend on the
BILL or they carry separate warranty cards ???

eg: amd 3000+ had a warranty slip.

but neo4 platinum , XFX 6600GT ,seagate , transcend dont have something of that
sort. is it implicit with the bill ?? they were all boxed ones ....

For claiming warranty on most of them, you don't even need the bill or anything. Each component has a unique serial number which is all thats required.

While installing the guy there said that the thermal paste is already applied on the heat sink and no need to add anymore .. is it right ??

While carrying the cabi .. i heard that there is some loose nut running around will affect the system ??

The xfx 6600GT temp shows 54 at idle and the thresold is 145c .. is this ok ??

where to set and find the cpu , mobo temps ??

Guys plz help .. i am a new bie in these things .. ??!?!??!
