CPU/Mobo AMD rocks - Configuration Help

first of all, congrats... enjoy ur time with this new rig,

second, regarding the temperature, download Motherboard Monitor and u can keep track of ur temps, voltages and fan speed.

IMO any loose nut inside is not good, open ur cabinet and check and see if u can tighten it up.

regarding the thermal paste, well AMD does come with a thermal pad so nothing to worry about unless ur temps are too high.

and ur gfx card temperature is normal.

Seafunn.. First things first... Do not switch on the PC with anything loose inside... Open up the case and look for it... I might sound BAD sying this but your sytem can go kaput... Open up the cabby find that loose screw and take it out... Just do it...

BTW Congrats

1. All AMD/Intel stock Heatsinks have a thermal pad on them, so you can install it right away without the need for any additional thermal paste. (Its only if you remove your heatsink after putting it on for the first time, that you need to clean out your heatsink and re-apply a fresh coat of thermal paste before you put it back on.)

2. If you heard any loose nuts rolling around your cabinet its extremely urgent that you get it out as soon as possible, else the loose nut could short-circuit your motherboard or any other component.

3. 54C on Idle sounds like normal temps for your XFX 6600GT. Its the temps on Load that are important and XFX recommends that the Load temps should preferably be not more than 75C. So I assume setting the threshold value to say around 80C from the 145C should be fine. Anyone else with an XFX 6600GT card can give their inputs?

4. For monitoring Temperatures/Voltages etc for your MSI board you can try two utilities:
(a) MSI's "CoreCenter" : Its MSI's very own utility designed specifically to work in conjunction with the "CoreCell" hardware monitoring chip present on their boards.
(b) nVidia nTune : An nvidia utility designed for nForce3/nforce4 boards.
Both also combine overclocking tools with the package ;) , though I wouldn't recommend that you start overclocking right away till you learn the basics as also the required "burn-in" time needed for your system.
These utilities will definately be there on the Driver CD thats bundled with your MSI motherboard.
If you're not able to locate it you can always visit the MSI site and download the latest version of these utilities for your specific motherboard from :
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_detail.php?UID=637&kind=1

You can also grab the latest versions of device drivers from the MSI site as well:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1

Hope that helps. Great rig there once again :cool2:

I installed the corecell .

CPU temp 41c at idle .
system temp too 41c at idle.
fan's rpm was 5433 rpm .

how to check the temps with load .. ??

I took out the nut which was running around in the mobo ( thanks it was on the other side of the mobo's supporting plate )

Guys i dont find all the USB ports operating .. i connected randomly the mouse and also
tried connecting my mob to the USBs but the system recognizes the mouse and mobile
only when connected to specific ports .. ????

Thats what my temps are too.
The Fan RPM is the NB fan rpm. My cpu fan runs at 2000 RPM
Have you installed the chipset drivers for the motherboard?? Nforce drivers

CPU temp is ok.
System temp seems a little high. Does your cabinet have atleast one exhaust fan? If it does, try adding another case fan if your cabinet has the provision for it.
(What is especially strange is that your system temp is equal to your CPU temp. It should always be lower than your CPU temp for a standard air-cooled system.)

To bring your system under load i.e. 100% CPU utilization, I recommend a very simple utility, "Prime95" (available at : [RANK="http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm"]http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm[/RANK]
- Download the tool, install and run Prime95.
- In the Prime95 menu, go to Options -> Torture Test. Select "Small FFTs" or "In-place large FFTs" and click on OK.
- Let the test run for a while preferably 15-20 mins.
- During the time you are running Prime95, Corecell will show your CPU/System temps gradually increasing till a point is reached when your temps seem to show no further increase. That should approximately be your temps with load.
- Once you are done noting the temps, you can go back to Prime95 and click on Test -> Stop , from the menu.

Are you referring to USB ports only on the motherboard, or are you trying to connect to ports present on your cabinet? If you are trying the ones on your cabinet and they arent working, it could be possible that they are not connected.

System temp is northbridge temps. For nf3/nf4, thats pretty okay. They tend to run extremely hot. i've seen mine reach 45-48 under load.

Guys,

While checking in BIOS the temps were as follows

system - 42
CPU - 45
CPU fan speed - 5487 rpm
NB fan speed - 7500 rpm :@

cool'n'quiet was disabled .
Smart CPU fan target disabled.
And after booting when checked in CORE CENTRE at idle they were

system - 42
CPU - 43
NB temp - N/A ( why is it so ?? )
cpu fan speed - 2220 rpm
NB fan speed - slow ( why is it displaying this ??)

I have set the alarm values to be

system - 55c
CPU - 55c
fan speed - 1100 rpm

My cabinet has two fans .. i have set them to run when the temp inside reaches 40c.

Regarding the USBs , they were the front panel cabinet ports which were wrongly
connected.I corrected them now its fine ..

The voltages were
Vcore - 1.36V
3.31 V
5.03 V
12.08 V

Seems to be slightly on the higher side for a Winchester. I have a 3200+ and idle temps are around 35-37 C. Stock HSF with 2 120mm case fans at slow speed. Screenshot of Asusprobe is attached.

Some motherboards tends to over/under report temps. Many people say that Asus under-reports. So, I guess your temps are within the acceptable range.

Perhaps as Chaos said, the NB temp lists as N/A since the system temp is actually the NB temp. Temperature reporting seems to be fairly accurate, so no need to worry there.

As per the fan speed mis-reporting, no idea why thats happening, but perhaps a BIOS update might help.

Guys When i exit from a game and look at the temp it is 49C-50c.

Should i go for two extra fans .. ?? My assembler is saying it would load the SMPS ... and that the fans are not required .. ??

And guys where do i get the SATA driver for redhatlinux9.0. The installer is asking to select from a group of drivers and i dont know which one .. i have posted in Software thread too. ?

The temps look ok IMO, but they are a little on the higher side. You'd best wait for the opinion of a regular Socket 939 user.

Also while true adding case fans adds its load onto your SMPS, it would be very minimal , hardly another 2-5 watts of power consumption.

You can have a look at this link for some info on SATA in Linux : [RANK="linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html"]http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html[/RANK]

Scroll down to the nVidia part.

The link given to nVidia's site however has a typo, and the correct address would be :
