So you are saying if you are technical enough, then an AMD is a better buy ?
..these days ?
What I am saying is simply this , let's say Barcelona (AMD K10) comes out tomorrow & trashes C2D by let's say 30% (its a what-if scenario) on a competitive price .
Now if the vendor/channel still extols about Intel pieces for a variety of reasons including:-
a) pressure from Intel not to sell AMD products or to sell low-end products by giving discounts. That is predatory. which leads to
b)not allowing or telling the consumers to make a fair choice or understanding. Not telling them that a competitive price solution exists apart from Intel.
c)not having technical resources to understand & support AMD.
Just for fun purposes, see how many retailers stock AMD X2 processors and compatible motherboards. Its not even question of value but of
'variety'. Any good entrepreneur, businessman, technologist in any industry would have competing products. Take for instance LCD monitors (I take those as they are price-bracket is in the same range, atleast the good ones) you would always see LCD monitors of 2-3 vendors in any shop. Of course they might have their own preference but atleast they are there and people are free to make their choice.
For AMD however, I would have to contact one of the AMD's salespeople & they would direct me which retailer, distributor has their stock. Not good for the company, not good for end-users. And I have seen apart from AMD's retailers, distributors the others usually don't have high-end pieces or they are constantly in short supply (1 month or something like that) of course this experience I have had 3-4 times in the last 3 yrs. (the latest being 3 months back) when assembling a system for a friend/client.
