AMD to release X1950GT in certain area only
While the new 80nm RV570 GPU has received advantages against NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS by its excellent performance value, making ATI Radeon X1950PRO be so hot for the performance segment, AMD once hoped to continue the success of Radeon X1950PRO and announced on Nov that the company plans to release RV570LE GPU as Radeon X1950GT in Q107. However, as to release stock for Radeon X1900GT, AMD recently added a restriction to the release, saying that certain partners within certain area would only be supplied for this release. We don’t know how long would this restriction last for.
The new model, Radeon X1950GT (RV570LE), has a very similar specification to the PRO edition. Features include: 12 Pixel Shader Pipeline, 36 Shader Processor (ALU), 8 Vertex Engine, 12 ROP, and Native CrossFire. The lowered core speed (575MHz to 500MHz) and memory speed (1.38GHz DDR to 1.2GHz) are the main differences from the PRO edition. In addition, another difference includes a deletion of “Video In†support in Rage Theater.
The ASIC sample has been sent to manufacturers in Mid-Dec, expecting the design will be completed in Mid-Jan and driver will be ready in 8.34 WHQL released in late Jan. The final production is scheduled in early Feb.
In addition, previously, AMD also plans to release a cheaper version of RV560, namely RV560LE. Features include: 8 Pixel Shader Pipeline, 24 Shader Processor (ALU), 5 Vertex Engine, and 8 ROP. The clock speed will lowered to 400MHz and DDR2 is introduced instead at 800MHz. However, the plan has been proponed or even cancelled, according to our source.
