Are you sure that x8 PICEx slot can live upto the BW of those beasts ? Pls consult with others before buying. AFAIK, even a 4870 is limited by the x8 mode. :(

I prefer Gigabyte only as Accell (Seagate guys) handles it's warranty & I suggest you buy UD3R for 12.5k
if you prefer Asus then buy Asus P7P55D-PRO

Gigabyte UD3R doesn't support CFX-SLI @x8

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16) (The PCIEX16 slot conforms to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
1 x PCI Express x1 slot
4 x PCI slots

GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Specification - GA-P55-UD3R (rev. 1.0)

But Asus P7P55D Pro - does

By the way how is Biostar TPower i55 mobo ? ( 12.2k)

I read the reviews at anandtech but wanted to know your opinions

Hey Anubis...we meet again...!

Some suggestions:

Your choice for multi-GPU with x8 x8 lanes has become the deciding factor for your whole rig. Though this is good foresight, being a Xfire user myself, would honestly suggest do not let this be the deciding factor. Multi GPU (2 cards) honestly is a bit of a pain. :). Too much hardware in the system, so much cabling, a lot of heat generation, and ~10-12% performance loss due to the x8 x8 auto arrangement of the PCI.E Bus.

I would say, if you really want multi GPU, then go for a 2x solution. Get a HD4870x2 or get the GTX295. Dual GPUs on a single card. They internally Xfire/SLI. And now you do not have to worry about x16 changing to x8 x8, and have better options for motherboards.

By the way the MSI P55 GD80 (Trinnergy) has been released. It has an extra NF200 chip which opens the board to x16 x16. Sweet. :)

Go for 4GB ram, with tight timings.

The TX750 is robust. Will hold anything and everything on its shoulders. Nice choice.

Will you OC, please do not tell me, you plan to run that monster on tin Intel Stock..?

No offence bro

Spare me the horror , after listening to Crappy MSI service i will not tend to MSI even if Asus costs more

Well i won't OC till 1 year

My plan is use this ATI 4890 till 2010 / q1 2011 and then crossfire with Any DX11 card available @ 11k

But crossfire / sli its going to be.

I don't like throwing away my gfx every year.

I am fed up and my parents are also.

Throwing away gfx every year is an issue in my house.

I don't know how to sell it .

I am exchanging my Phenom II x4 955 with core i5 750

^^

As you wish about MSI. The board I told you about, is the fastest P55 as of now.

You can only multi-GPU cards of the same series. So a HD4890 will not dock to the HD5870. So you can only Xfire it with 48xx series, else run it singular. You might need to re-think your motherboard options.

I know that and i didn't meant to CFX with ATI 4890

I'll throw my ATI 4890 like all the other cards in my locker and CFX 2x 5850 (primararily ) or 2x 5870 if prices drop to 12k

But any DX11 card other than ATI 5770 @ 12k range will be crossfired in my rig in 2010 end or q1 2011

I never recommend Biostar as their A.S.S. depends totally on luck

Doesnt Asus ASS stink ? I mean its as good as the service you get for MSI :S

I have already fixed Asus P7P55D Pro . So no dilemma there

You plan to buy the highest 48xx series card, and then put it away for a mid 5xxx series. Does not make sense.

The price drops you are expecting, as mentioned above..doubt they will reach that low. The HD5870 is currently retailing at Rs.25000 (pre-TDS). You predicting a 13K drop in a year on ATI's flagship card. Highly unlikely. Even the HD5850 is at 17K, that will also not pan out to the 12K range. With nVidia caught with their pants down (no new line-up, TSM yields messed), ATI is making the calls. :) Since June 2009 the Hd4890 moved from 15888 to 11890, post a new line release (5xxx).

ATI 5850 will drop to 12k by q1 2010. This i am sure

Then i'll crossfire it

Even if it doesn't turn out , i'll keep my ATI 4890 till prices drop to 12k for ATI 5850

I know it can hold out till 2010 and even q1 2011

Moreover AMD ' s new gen DX11 Hectanocheires is scheduled for launch in November 2010.

Even if its late and releases in december 2010 or january 2011 but once it releases , ATI 5850 and ATI 5870 are going to drop prices

Thats a relief. I can safely opt for Asus boards now ! Just because of RMA issues I never recommended Asus boards to anyone around me. :P

Thanks for the heads-up Udit.

^^

If you really want to Xfire, and you are basing your rig on this.

1. Get a 5850 now and a 2nd later

2. Get a 4890 now and a 2nd later

This way you do not throw away any card. Even 2 x HD4890 will give you a lot of horsepower. You miss out Dx11 games -- big deal. By the time Dx11 is mainstream, you can get a whole new rig. Things would have changed by then.

Also said this before, do not future plan/current plan on 'price drops'. It like predicting weather.

dude.. I dont get it.. u plan to buy 2x 5850 when their price drops to 12k.

So that is 24K in total. So dont u think u will get a good x2 or something like 5890 or something else in that range 1 year down the line?

just the pain in cfx is what u should worry about. I mean driver issues, zero scaling in some games, the added expense for PSU, motherboard.. do u really think it is worth it?

1) I would say buy 4890 now and then buy the best card available for 25K next year.
or
2) save money on mobo, psu etc and buy 5850 now and be happy till ati releases 6xxx series.

I would say 2nd option is best.
