Hey MAGNeT who says that?
MTNL is by far the cheapest MSP. We have 3 connections in my family on MTNL and one on Airtel.
The best plan for you is the one they newly introduced. Pay Rs 199/- for a new SIM card and you get 1 year validity with 0.19 per minute for any MTNL landline, Trump, Dolphin or Garuda number and 0.49 per minute for others. What could be cheaper?
You get Rs 300 and 500 recharge vouchers with full talk time which you can couple with the above 1 year validity.
Use it and thank me.
BTW I have had many advantages of MTNL.
Last year I used a Rs 399/- voucher for 1 month validity unlimited calling to all MTNL numbers. I used it by renewing every month for 4 months. After that I discontinued. I kept getting free calls to MTNL number for almost a month after the expiry of validity at the end of the 4th month.
On one Jeevan Sathi number I am expected to recharge at least once in 6 months. I neglected to do it for 8 months and they did not cut it. When I called their CS to enquire about how many more days I had, they told me that my last recharge was 8 months ago so actually my validity period had ended 2 months ago. I recharged after another day or two.
Their network is fine too. The only issue with MTNL is that not everyone stocks their vouchers.

ARe u talking abt prepaid or postpaid...and how is their customer care???

well no idea about prepaid but for me airtel postpaid is hell aweful service and customer care. god knows what they do with prepaid

They are such a bunch of looters...on my old days when mobile office used to be charged 7rs a day........i deactivated the service........and for 9 days no money was deducted.....and than suddenly on 10th day...they deducted 70 buks all together......

THan after 3-4 more days when again got idea 7rs deducting from my account...i called them..beleive me it took me 1 hour 19 mins to reach the customer care...and gave him a heavy blast but those idiot never refunded the money back

Than i took their landline.........and when i deactivated it.....they told i have some refund left.......i refuse to give their handset...saying i want the refund amount and money cheque first even if its post dated......they said only if i give their handset theyll process it......as soon as i gave it..they told within 2 months ill receive the cheque....after ard 5 months when i visited their care centre to enquire about the cheque...they say it will b process within a week.....and after 2 months more when i ask them they say......their wasnt any refund ever......all staff changed.......

The reason i dont go with vodafone is my number is attached with lot of my banking needs and all important insurance mutual fund stuff....cant change it on spot......so waiting for september 20....will change than

ANd ya their network suks to that level that even my building has their tower...still i have to move to the window for clear reception

If you want transparency in billing go to Vodafone postpaid. If you want to remain in prepaid go for BSNL. My experience with AirTel mobile has not been very good.

+1 Vodafone is the most transparent. Every thing is in black an white.

That is also one reason it is percieved to be more expensive. Because all costs are informed to you. No hidden charges extracted later.

Their customer service is great too.

You should have moved consumer court/TRAI. Companies are supposed to pay interest to customers if they don't refund security deposit within 60 days of disconnection.
Only their fixed wireless services were troublesome(like all other FWP services). Got refund in less than 60 days of disconnection.

Problem was i was not at my place when my mom gave them their handset back...so she had no idea to take any receipt and all....

airtel is indeed like this. they even cheated me refusing to disconnect my service and kept on sending me bills for 7 months. imagine how much money they earned from me.

they took 2 years to disconnect my dsl services despite frequent reminders. i didn't pay those bills.

The schemes I wrote about are prepaid. There are postpaid schemes too for the 399 unlimited MTNL which comes with both Trump and Dolphin.
The customer care is just about adequate for the kind of help I usually need. One issue for which I have blasted them a few times is a little funny. Their voice assisted inward asks you which language you want and then when the human comes it really doesn't matter which option you chose.:)
I have not had any serious issue though.

i have been on airtel for 7 years now, same number since 2002

not much issues with them, best network coverage in punjab

when it comes to good network in Bangalore Airtel is good, but their serice really sucks, Vodafone are the pretty good with their Services and some nice add on features.

Sorry for bumping..but again they started the loot..

I unsubscribed from old plan and got the new one where i pay half ard 15 buks per month for 60 paise per call...now the 60 days expired...and they have again started old plan 1 buk deduction per day for 60 paise...wheras the new plan on their site comes something like 59 buks for 90 days(pay 14 now..and daily 50 paise will b dedcuted to get the plan) to get this facility....but they again charging like 90 buks for 90 days...damn even number portability is delayed...ill try aircel now as their cc sentre is ard now at my place

Why dont you go to your nearest Airtel World and talk with the people there and ask them how can you get rid of that Re.1/day plan permanently.

I felt that the people at the Airtel World's are slightly more knowledgeable than those who work at their customer care centre.

P.S: Also if you can, lodge a complaint via email or phone with TRAI. Maybe they can help you.

You really should have tried MTNL Trump like I said. Rs. 199/- gets you a whole year validity for calls at 0.49 with entire MTNL network at just 0.19.
I think you also get Rs 199/- worth free talk time for MTNL to be used over the whole year.
