our entire area is hardwired by 7star and they bought them over...so its all lan based.
i wonder if a small app / program could be written that would re-login at the site when the connection gets disconnected at night

bloody hell, i've been getting Timed Out a LOT while browsing the web for the past week.. downloads have no probs..

there is a software called "Automate 6" and it can be used to automate the web logins etc. i have done it successfully for reliance.

and the only prob with tata for me is dns issues, domain resolution takes some time. other than that tata is excellent..

vivek, what you need is a macro recorder to automate the login process, by recording mouse clicks and keystrokes to replicate the web login.
Automate 6 is one such app, the one i use is Jitbit Macro Recorder as it's the only one i found to have a vista-compatible version.

then i just use the vista built-in task scheduler to run the macro every 10hrs. this has helped me to solve 90% of the disconnection problem i faced previously.

drop me a PM if you need further help to set it up.

well i was able to do most of the stuff...login and re-log in with automate 6, BUT was not able to tell it to run this when the ping to yahoo.com times out...

basically what i do is run a cmd window with a ping command "%windir%\system32\ping.exe Yahoo! -t -l 1".

this ensures that i dont need to be at my comp during the day. Now i need the automate proggy to run the login only 5 minutes after the above ping times out. That part i have not been able to do.

The other option is to run a task scheduler every 3 hours to logout and re-login using automate. (that i have not figured out too)

so any help will be appreciated.

@vivek, i think triggering a task when the ping times out might be a little tricky to do. you might be better off scheduling the task every 3hrs. automate should have a built-in scheduler (not sure though coz i've not used it before).

in my case, using JitBit Macro Recorder, i just use windows task scheduler to execute the macro script at regular time intervals. JitBit allows the macro script to run itself, as though it was a .exe application. in that sense, it works very well with windows task scheduler.

thats what i figured too..
i did set up a task that would run everyday between 8pm and 9 am every 2 hours, where it would first log off the site and re-login.

will let you know if it works tomorrow morning.

then i could share that particular task in automate6 so everyone with the same problem could use it if required.

But would that help with apps like BitComet? Wouldn't it mess up torrent downloads?
