Hi,

I want to make an enquiry about  iPad availability/purchase in Delhi.

iPad will be launched in US on April 3 and late April in Europe.

I am assuming it will not be available in India through official channels for a couple of months.

Any idea where I can get it through "other" channels.

I have heard about gaffar market in karol bagh.

Should I look for it there or mayble an online site like ebay.in or this site is a better choice?

Note: This is a serious post. Please try to disregard my username. ;)

Shouldn't YOU have the answer Steve? Sorry, couldn't resist ;-)

On a serious note, I have written to Apple India. Will let you know what I hear back. Pretty sure it's going to be "no word yet". Cheers.

Just as I thought..

Hi Kunal,

Thanx for your email.

At the moment there is nothing further to add to the press release. Will surely keep you posted on any development.

The Apple India Mot%^%$ Fuc$%$# don't know shi#!

Same thing happened with magic mouse. They just kept telling me that it will be available in 10 days over and over again for FOUR friggin' months.

I don't believe anything they say. Apple India is like Cindrella for Apple. They treat it like a step-child.... :(

That is the reason why I am looking for iPad through "unofficial" channels.

You should be able to find it through unofficial, grey channels like gaffar market in delhi, heera panna, alfa in mumbai! Don't wait for the thing to be launched here, it could take forever! I am just looking for someone who can get me one from US :)

If one can get it directly from the US, that will be the best option.

I can't do that. I guess I will look for it in gaffar market next month. It is in karol bag, right?

Any idea, which is a "reliable" shop in gaffar market?

in USA the entry-level model (which I am gunning for) costs 499 bucks.

Here, one will have to add taxes. So, I am guessing, officially it will cost in the region of 30K INR. i calculated by viewing the ipod touch prices in india apple store. 64 GB iPod touch costs 24K. that same model available for $399 in USA store.

The Apple Store (India) - iPod Touch

Unofficially, I am not sure what it will cost. maybe 35K? That is a lot of moolah for a tablet. :(

Yup, you'd better wait for the official launch in that case and pray they launch it this year in India :P

The iPad carries international warranty like most Apple products. So as long as your buying the WiFi-only version, you can pick it up from anywhere.

If you want the 3G version, I'd suggest you wait for an India launch.

The 3G version is of no use for me as 3G is not coming here until next year.

Also, it will be more expensive.

I am for the Wi-Fi Model... I guess I will check out karol Bagh. That's the place I got my iPhone from. Maybe I'll find iPad there...

If anyone knows about a place in Delhi which sells Apple Products "unofficially", do post about it....

Check out SolarDigitalCam in Palika Bazaar. They sell Apple products. You have to remember that all the items you buy from grey market, Palika or Gaffar, will be open box, and without original manufacturer's warranty (unless the manufacturer provides international warranty).

The seller I mentioned is a highly reputed seller on ebay and has a shop in Palika Bazaar (first floor section) as well. Talk to them about getting an iPad, I am sure they will work out something for you as and when the iPad launches in the market.

[OT]It is early days for the iPad. Hell, it isn't even officially out in the market. IMO let some people get it in their hands, review it, use it, then go for it. I understand you are an Apple fanboy, but I don't peg you for a foolish fanboy. In the end its your money! :)[/OT]

I am very queasy about buying from Palika bazaar. A lot of Bas$%$ds in that place. Actually all of them are IMO.. :p

I am not a *foolish* fanboy. I have done my little bit of *research* on it.. and I have cum to the conclusion that iPad is the real deal. It's THE gadget of the year.

I want it and I want it NOW. :p

OK, you may have done your research and I sure as hell hope it pays off!

One thing I have learned is that never go in for first generation hardware from Apple.

But Palika or Gaffar, its the same thing. You have to first look for a "reputed" seller, haggle with him, pray to the Almighty that the item is not DOA, and then, if everything goes right, enjoy the purchase. :P

I get your point.

I have several Apple Products. They have never given me grief. *touch wood*

I bought the original iPhone when it first came out in 2007. It works great. never had any problem with it....

Yeah the 2nd gen iPad will have better hardware. will probably have a camera. I don't need it frankly...

That's the problem with technology. Like women, there will always be bigger and better b00ty out there.

I have learned to be content with the current b00ty available with me. Otherwise, I am afraid I will remain a gadget virgin.... :p

This "reputed seller" just told me that iPad will be available with them from next week. AFAIK, iPad goes on sale in USA on April 3.

I don't know what this "reputed seller" is smoking. Maybe he has some "exclusive" arrangement with Apple. They provide him with products before they are even launched in the USA!!:P

^^LoL! Keep us updated on the iPad availability and good luck! I am trying to arrange for someone to get it for me from US!

yeah man. that is the best option. get it from USA. That is the cheapest way. I wish I knew someone in the USA who was coming to India.. :(
